  • Makerbot Upgrade

    Funded Mar 27, 2014

Thank you so much for the help with our Makerbot! We are really enjoying all the items that we can print. The glass plates and the blue tape really do help us! Without help from you, this would not have been possible.

One of the ways we have used out Makerbot has had an impact on our entire school district. Each school has a lot of paper towel dispensers. There is a gear in the dispensers that frequently breaks. The district can not buy the parts, they have to buy an entire dispenser. By utilizing the high school CAD teacher, we were able to make some replacement gears. This will really help the district.

It is easy to say why the students love the Makerbot. They love to watch it print, and as we add colors, they think of more and more items to print. We are eager to get students started designing their own projects. I think this is one of the most important items we have in our school. Students need to become proficient in science and technology at a much earlier age. Having a Makerbot, and the new upgrades really will go a long way to help this.

Thank you so much! We are deeply grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cobb

  • Help Us Keep Our Makerbot Building

    Funded Apr 3, 2014

Our students have been very excited to use the Makerbot 3-D printer! It is frustrating when projects get stuck to the plate, or does not level as easy. We are really grateful for the glass build plates and the blue tape! We can get the projects off the build plate much better and make sure it is level.

Our school colors are yellow and blue. Having yellow filament will let us make items that match our school colors. We really appreciate your help in getting our Makerbot some upgrades!

We really appreciate your donation. Thank you.”

  • Autistic Students Need Support

    Funded Apr 13, 2014

Thank you so much for your help in funding this project. The project was written so that we would be prepared for 2 very autistic students that will be new to regular classroom placement. Our school does not have the appropriate resources for them, and we wanted to help make sure that they can succeed at our school.

When we got the items, we "test drove" them with some of our younger students that have some limitations, even though not nearly as severe. The students are so excited to use the materials! We are so grateful for each and every item. Having them early also allows us to use the velcro to get materials ready using it.

I know that we will be much more prepared with these materials. It will also make learning more fun for other students that go to the resource room. Thank you.”

  • Help Us Color our Makerbot World

    Funded Mar 29, 2014

The kids are so excited! They have been wanting so new colors for the makerbot. They keep asking if we can get more. When they saw these colors they were so excited. They can't wait to see what we make with the colors.

Having a 3-D printer is so great. Being able to have some new colors is just amazing! The projects look great. We just can't thank you enough for your help.

It takes individuals and groups like Match for Kansas City Schools to make a difference. We could not have the opportunity to have any of the materials for the printer that we do without your support. Thank you so much!”

  • Makerbot Links Us to the Future

    Funded Nov 15, 2013

All the students and teachers are so excited to watch the Makerbot in action! The day we first started it up, the teachers kept dropping by to see what it was doing! The students are very excited to see it in action. Everyone is searching for projects to create.

In our local paper and news there was an article about a teenager using a similar Makerbot to make an artificial hand for a child with a missing hand. There was also an article in scholastic news about a similar event in another location. This made the students see how life changing this technology can be. With 3D printers in the news for the different applications that they can be used for, this makes the students understand that there are so many meaningful projects that can be done.

Thank you Makerbot for the almost home match that made this possible! I also am so grateful for those that helped complete the project. From giving pages, to individuals, this match was a team effort. Thank you for all of your support.”

  • Ready for Roundup!

    Funded Feb 22, 2014

They say it takes a village to raise a child, and we have quite the village that helped with this project. When i look over the list of donors I see names of people I have not met but feel like I know. I am so appreciative of each and every donation that was made.

We have a very special group of kindergarten teachers. As they welcome their incoming students for next year's classes, we wanted to be able to make the evening of kindergarten roundup special. The students were so excited to see all the special items that we received. Wearing the crowns proudly as they went to meet all the teachers that they will have. The nurse had a special crayon bandage for each of them. The bags each child received had welcome notes, sidewalk chalk, notes from the teachers, and other exciting items.

This special event really gets the students excited about coming to school next year. Thank you for making this a special day for all of them and their teachers.”

    Mrs. Cobb

  • I Have a Dream, We Will End Bullying and Embrace Diversity

    Funded Jun 24, 2013

Thank you so much for supporting this project. These resources will really help our students learn more about diversity and tolerance. We spend a lot of time in fourth grade working on conflict resolution and tie it to a unit about Martin Luther King. I am excited for the students to have these books available.

It is my belief that one of the greatest lessons we teach in school is acceptance of others and how to get along with people that are different from us. A wide variety of books on different cultures will help students develop more understanding.

We also need more books for our reading program. This project will help some of our classrooms provide the books needed for their students. Without your support, we would not have these books.

Thank you again for your support!”

  • Help Us Process Our Grief Creatively with Art

    Funded Jun 24, 2013

It is difficult for children to verbally process their feelings. Often art can be used to help students process all the feelings they have and do not understand.

We are beginning to meet with small groups of students that are struggling to deal with feelings of loss. Sometimes it is the loss due to death, sometimes it is due to parents being in the military or in prison. The loss of a beloved pet is also very difficult to deal with.

This project will allow the small groups to be actively engaged. We will make special memory books that the student can keep to remember the special times. The creative process can be very healing!

Thank you for helping with this project, it will help many students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cobb

  • Kindergarten Authors!

    Funded Sep 7, 2013

Thank you for choosing to support this project. This is a project we have been planning for some time. Our journey began two years ago when Julia Cook, a children's book author, came to our school. She motivated the staff and the teachers. We started ordering more of her books and as the counselor I started using many of her books for my lessons. The topics she addresses are the topics I cover.

My second grade team jumped on board and became very active in using her books and coordinating with me. We have very attractive and engaging bulletin boards based on the books we are using. The activity books that goes with the books have a variety of materials that supplement the lessons and also provides for writing activities. This started us down the road to develop a plan to have encore teachers also read a book and include writing in their classes, a district priority. The project was so successful, we have expanded to first and Kindergarten.

We wrote another project to get journals for the students to write in. The special education teacher designed a cover for each journal. The students are now using the journals as we read the books and learn important live lessons such as how to deal with teasing, bullies, grief, and a variety of other topics. I am looking forward to the end of the year to see the completed journals.”
