Fitness Here We Come!
Funded Dec 7, 2017Our students are loving the rhino balls, yarn balls and the bean bags! We had our celebration for good behavior and they used the yarn bags for their games! The materials arrived the day before the event! We were so grateful!
In PE students who are waiting to play hockey or other sports where they rotate teams can use the balls and bean bags while waiting for their turn. They also have organized games that they play in PE or recess using these materials.
It is important for students to have equipment that they want to use to motivate them to move! In today's society children do not get the exercise that they need. I know that students learn better and are happier if they are physically active. These materials are also items families could buy and are not expensive. If students learn how to use them and enjoy them, it might motivate parents to provide some for home use.
I really appreciate you help for this project! The donations and the matching funds allowed us to get the materials that will help students for years.”

Funded Dec 12, 2017Thank you for the materials! The students love them! There are so man different activities that we can do now. The OSMO materials are great for the younger students. They are learning to code as well as use the drawing pad.
All the students really like the KNEX set. We can now work on a big project together. The students also like the Lego sets. The students are eager to try all the different materials. I can't wait to see what all the students are able to do as they explore each of them. It is exciting to see how well they work together.
I really appreciate all that you have done to help our students.”

Funded Sep 3, 2017Thank you so much! My students are loving the Ozobots! Now that the students have IPADS, we are able to explore so much more! The students are learning to code as they use Ozobots. I am looking forward to seeing what all they are able to do!
STEM club allows my students to explore a variety of materials and work together. They help each other out as they try new technology. It is the interaction of the students that makes it so great.
Learning to code is a skill that will be great for our students in the future.
The students really enjoy all the materials. We really appreciate all that you have done to help our students! Thank you so much!”

Funded Sep 11, 2017Thanks to some great coworkers, Ginger and Deb. C, and a match offer from Stavros Niarchos Foundation, we were able to fund this project. The students are so excited. We have several stations in STEM club and this has become a favorite. They are wanting to sign up for which one they get to do next.
They do a great job of sharing, and working together. I am amazed at how well they do! They are learning to allow directions, work with others, and learn about famous buildings. Many want to get become an architect when they grow up.
It is so important for students to have materials that engage them and encourage the to be creative. I really appreciate your donations and dedication to students. Thanks again for your help.”

Funded Jun 12, 2017Words can not express how thankful we are to have your support. This project will help in so many ways. Math literacy is so important. Most of the jobs that will be in demand require math. When students fall behind when they are in elementary, it is hard for them to catch up, and they get discouraged and quit trying. They also do not like math any more.
We want students to be excited about math! We also want to help those that are struggling to keep up. Classrooms can use the kits to help teach lessons, but those needing additional teaching will be pulled into small groups to work on skills using the materials. They enjoy working with the kits, so they think it is fun.
We also have special bags that will be used to send home some of the materials for students to use at home. They will take a bag home, and then bring it back the next day. Each day will have new instructions on what skills to practice. They will be easy for the parents to supervise.
Our goal is to encourage students to excel and enjoy math! Thank you for your help with this project.”

Funded Aug 8, 2017It is very hard for military families to deal with the separation, fear, and all the other issues that comes with deployment. I want to be able to support my families in any way I can.
We now have journals for students to record their thoughts and feelings, as well as document their lives while the parent is away. Journaling is a great way for students to process their thoughts and feelings.
We also now have curriculum specifically designed for their age group. This is important to give structure to our group sessions so that we are able to address some of the common issues that students face with research based information.
There are also several books that we can share that will help students understand their feelings, and also know that others also have similar feelings. There is a variety of books that target primary and intermediate. It is important to have books at the developmental level of the students.
We can also send home information for the family unit. The other parent is often overwhelmed. These resources will help in so many ways!
Thank you!”

Funded Aug 14, 2017Thank you for helping us get bounce on! The students are so happy to have balls that actually bounce! Our old balls just did not work very well.
The students are starting their basketball unit in PE. It is important to have enough balls that will work for the unit. This project provided us with the balls we needed for this unit. We will also have an after school basketball club later in the year.
It is very important for students to develop healthy activity habits. Basketball is a sport that when students learn to like the sport, they can play in local parks, neighborhoods, and with community teams. We want to help our students develop a love for sports.
When students get physical activity they are healthier, learn better, and also learn social skills such as teamwork and good sportsmanship. These are all areas that we will be able to address.
Thank you for helping us with our project, and for assisting in promoting healthy life habits.”

Funded Aug 4, 2017My students are so grateful to have items on hand when we need them. I am extremely grateful for all the support that you have given us. We were able to get tops, bottoms, socks, and underwear for boys and girls in many sizes.
Students sometimes have accidents. When this happens the students miss class time while waiting for a change of clothing, and often it is not possible for the parents to supply a change. It is also embarrassing. The longer the student I s out of the classroom, the more the other student notice. It is important for out students not to feel embarrassed by these accidents.
It is not just about the subject matter. It is important to me that they feel good about themselves. When students are able to have something to wear that keeps them from feeling bad about themselves, it means so much to them.
Thank you for caring!”

Funded Jun 10, 2017This year promises to be an exciting year. We set up our new dedicated MakerSpace room. This room will be used by the librarian for MakerSpace and for my STREAM club.
We have worked hard to get the materials for the room that will allow full classes to be able to participate in projects using the same materials, and therefore be able to do lessons around them, in addition to times when students can select different centers to work with. We also use the materials for science units and on our STREAM/Career Day, where all student experience a full day of interactive learning.
This project allows us to have enough MakeyMakey for students to explore coding and circuits. The students are learning to use the computer coding to expand the capabilities for MakeyMakey. They really learn to take charge of their learning when they can actually use code.
Snap Circuits are also one of the areas we have been using, in MakerSpace, STREAM club, and Career Day. Even the youngest students are able to follow the instructions and complete a lot of different projects. We were short on number of sets that would allow a classroom enough to share. This project brings the numbers up to what is needed.
Ozmo sets will work with our iPads. They allow for a variety of activities that the students really like to do.
This project will help with our district initiative to improve out STREAM experiences for our students.
Thank you so much for helping with our project.”

Funded Apr 13, 2017Thank you so much for helping with this project! Our STEM club was so thrilled to get the materials. They really enjoy learning to use the Dash and Dot robots, Ozobots, and other robotics. Makey Makey has really helped students learn about coding, as well as circuits. It is amazing how far they have come in such a short time. They also teach others how to use the materials once they become more familiar with them.
The materials also helped us with our all day STEM day! Every student in the school was able to experience a variety of STEM activities. Our goal is to get enough materials that classrooms will be able to use for lessons as our school will be having an emphasis on STEM education this year.
I love watching the students learn and interact! One student told me that this was "the funnest place ever!" When you can excite young students to engage in this type of activity, it is preparing them for the careers in demand.
Parent involvement has been very important, both in the STEM club, and in our STEM day. These dedicated volunteers help students learn how to use the materials, and monitor them as they progress on their own.
Thank you again. We have plans for a great new year!”
