  • Help Us Connect To Our Military Parents!

    Funded Mar 18, 2012

Military families have so much to deal with. It is hard for the families to be apart. There are so many important events that the absent parent misses. It is my hope that we can use this camera as a way to help connect the parents and students.

We want to be able to take pictures and video of important school events. At the end of the year we will be able to put together a DVD for the absent parent. Although it is not the same as being there, it does give the parent a little taste of what the student is doing. It will also help spur discussions of the events.

As the students us the camera they are able to feel like they are doing something for the parent. This is very empowering for the students. The student's parent at home will be able to use the camera on class field trips and other important school events.

I can't thank you enough! I am eager to post pictures of the students and the camera. I appreciate it very much. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cobb

  • Letting Our Stars Shine

    Funded Apr 2, 2012

The students are very excited. The incentives that you provided are great. The students are eager to show "Star" behavior so that they will be able to get these. They even asked, is there any other ways we can earn one?

The teachers are also very appreciative. When students have something to look forward to or to recognized their great behavior, it really helps students focus on showing positive behavior.

The bracelets also have positive sayings on them, so that reinforces our goals. In the difficult economy it is hard to provide items that students like and also are positive. Your help has made this possible. I can't thank you enough! It is heartwarming to know that there are individuals and groups that are willing to help students!

Thank your for helping my Star Students Shine!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cobb

  • We are Positive that We Can Make the Right Choices!

    Funded Mar 18, 2012

Our younger students were so excited when our books came. They love the colorful pictures and the great character stories. Each Friday we have a special time for students to work with another grade level. These books are perfect for that.

The students will read the books together, discuss the character trait in the story and do some shared writing. This helps with academics, social skills, and character development.

Our school staff works well together. We will be able to use these books with many groups of students. The teachers are so excited about using them.

Thank you so much for your willingness to help students! It does make a difference. Even teachers get excited and motivated when we have projects funded. Thank you!”

  • I Have a Dream, We Will End Bullying and Embrace Diversity

    Funded Feb 29, 2012

We are very excited to get our materials. The timing could not have been better. We just finished a unit in class on the civil rights movement. The students had just completed time lines. The large photo cards were perfect. They covered the same events we just studied. Now we can use the pictures and make a visual timeline.

I am very impressed with the "Bullying in Schools" book. This will be used for discussion and writing projects. The book is very well written and presented in a way that it is easy to use.

The students and staff love the Nook. We have already downloaded many books to read. It will be very motivational to be allowed to use it. We would not be able to have this without Donors Choose.

Many of the books go along with our curriculum and will be used by several grades to help teach the lessons in history along with how to prevent bullying.

I truly believe that these resources will make a difference with our students. I can not express how thankful we are to have these wonderful resources. ”

  • Bullies, Help Us Be Part of the Solution

    Funded Feb 17, 2012

It is hard to know where to begin. This project contained several materials that have each had an impact on our students.

Thanks to Townsend Press's book "Bullying in Schools", we have a resource our 5th grade students can use. The stories help them learn about bullying and how to end bullying behaviors in themselves and others. The writing prompts are very helpful as we more towards writing in all classes. When students are able to write about the topic, they are able to really comprehend the material.

We downloaded several stories about character and the students love using the Nook to read about making better choices. We are able to use it as a reward for students who make good choices. The students really enjoy it.

We received several books on bullying which we can use in all of our classrooms. The students really enjoy these books. I am so appreciative of those that helped us obtain them.

The game has been a very important part of our social skills groups. It is a terrific way for our students to learn about bullying behaviors. It is very popular with the students.

Thank you so much for all you have done for my students. I really appreciate it. I believe it will make a difference in the choices our students make. ”

  • Electronic Help with Positive Behavior Choices

    Funded Feb 9, 2012

My students are very excited. We received our Nook and within hours had it in use. Within an hour of use in the resource room, the teacher came to find me. She could not believe the impact it was having on her students. Some of her students are very resistant to learning. One made enormous progress as a result of being able to use the Nook. We can use this to help with reading and math.

Students are able to use the Nook as rewards for positive behavior. It is sure to be a motivation to many that do not care about other rewards. We downloaded some popular games for them to access during the reward time.

We are also in the process of making social stories and other videos to run on the Nook to help instruct students on making better choices.

Without your help, we would not have this resource. I can't thank you enough for helping providing these valuable resources.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cobb
