Students will use the materials requested to create and use interactive science notebooks. These notebooks will promote student learning in a variety of areas. First, they are an authentic record keeping and organizational tool used by professional scientists. Second, interactive notebooks will support students' ability to personalize their learning. On the right side of their notebook, students enter more teacher directed content (notes, assigned practice problems, etc.). On the left side, students must create their own outputs (lab conclusions, models, drawings, graphic organizers, poems/songs, etc.) in a way that supports their learning style and helps them make connections with the material. Finally, these notebooks serve as a portfolio of their work that they can use to reflect on their progress throughout the course. Science notebooks provide a way for students to interact more deeply with science content and help promote their development of scientific thinking. Not all my students have the means to purchase the supplies needed to create and maintain an interactive notebook. Donations to this project will help my students develop lifelong skills in organization and critical thinking.
