Our school library serves a population ranging from preschool to sixth grade. 63% of our population is economically disadvantaged, with only about 30% scoring proficient on state assessments. Research shows that students who are highly engaged are more proficient so we're striving to boost school engagement by creating an atmosphere that boosts creative thinking and problem solving. The library sees every student during a weekly scheduled class. Children are also welcome to visit any time during the day to explore personal interests, and on a typical day about 100 students take advantage of this opportunity. The library offers opportunities to explore the fields of robotics and computer coding as well traditional resources, including books, computers, and magazines.
