I teach 170 7th graders who come from a very limited background. They attend a charter school in Texas that is aimed at creating opportunities in an effort to get them to college. The idea is that learning doesn't end in the classroom - that it is a holistic experience. Most of my students are minorities who will be first generation high school and college graduates.
