Funded Oct 10, 2024We are deeply grateful for your generous support of our STEAM Night, which made the "Mommy and Me" self-care activity an unforgettable experience. Thanks to your contribution, families had the wonderful opportunity to create essential oil rollers, room sprays, and dried flower bags infused with essential oils. This hands-on activity not only sparked creativity but also fostered meaningful connections as parents and children worked side by side. Together, they explored the importance of self-care while learning about the balance of mind, body, and soul in a truly engaging and memorable way.
The joy and bonding shared among families were evident throughout the evening, as participants proudly showcased their creations and embraced the calming atmosphere. Crafting Competition shirts for STEAM Success!
Funded Jan 2, 2025On behalf of our team, the "Windy Huskies," I want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous support of our STEAM project. Thanks to your contribution, we were able to proudly represent our school with custom "Windy Huskies" T-shirts at the FPL Generator Build competition. These shirts became more than just attire—they embodied our school pride, teamwork, and determination. Winning 2nd place in the competition was a thrilling achievement, and wearing these shirts amplified our excitement, allowing us to celebrate as a united team in front of our peers and mentors.
The pride and joy our students felt were evident as they walked into the competition arena, especially when the engineers from FPL shared that they were former students at Norland Middle School. The connection inspired our students to dream even bigger and see themselves as future innovators. Your generosity played a role in creating this moment, allowing our students not only to compete but to feel like champions. Thank you for believing in our students and investing in their journey toward excellence in STEAM education.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Mitchell

Steam DIY Activities for Mind, Body and Soul
Funded Dec 19, 2023Thanks to your incredible support, our students have had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a genuinely magical STEAM experience: creating DIY sugar scrubs, essential oil rollers, and candles. This project has sparked their creativity and brought a sense of calm, focus, and joy to our classroom.
A Magical Moment in Action:
During one session, students carefully measured sugar, oils, and fragrances for their scrubs. One student excitedly said, "This smells like happiness in a jar!" Another, who initially hesitated to participate, later shared, "I feel so relaxed after making this. Can we do this every week?" Their pride and joy in creating something beautiful and functional were contagious.
The candle-making was equally awe-inspiring. Watching the wax melt and blend with their chosen scents felt like a science experiment that turned into art. The students marveled at how chemistry could create something so comforting.
Mind, Body, and Soul Connection:
This project was more than just a hands-on activity; it became a way for students to learn about self-care and wellness. They explored how scents and natural ingredients can affect mood and mental clarity, incorporating STEAM principles like measurement, proportion, and heat transfer into their creations.
The Ripple Effect:
What's most magical is how students began gifting their creations to family members and sharing what they learned about the science and artistry behind each product. One student told me, "My mom loved the scrub I made! She said it made her day." Moments like these show how your generosity impacts our classroom and extends into our students' homes and communities.
What's Next:
Our students are eager to dive into more DIY wellness projects, such as bath bombs and lip balms, combining science, creativity, and a focus on well-being.
Thank you for being the spark that makes these magical moments possible. Your generosity is shaping curious minds and compassionate hearts!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Mitchell
A STEAM Based Classroom to Increase Math and Science Scores
Funded Sep 30, 2024One of the most exciting moments was when my students used the new microscope for the first time. They connected their cell phones to the microscope to capture and analyze live images of cells. Watching their reactions as they saw the intricate details of onion skin cells on the screen was priceless. One student exclaimed, "This is like a new world I've never seen before!"
Using the calculators and pencils in my Math classroom made learning much more fun and easier when each student has their calculator. They are working out their answers meticulously, and using the calculators to perform algebraic calculations.
What's Next?
Our next big step is designing a team project to identify microscopic organisms in pond water. Students will research and document findings using the microscopes and their phones and create presentations showcasing their discoveries. This project will tie together observation, data analysis, and communication skills.
Your support has brought excitement and deepened their love for science and exploration. Thank you for being part of our classroom's journey!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Mitchell
STEAM Classroom DIY Projects
Funded Oct 1, 2023Thank you for funding the STEAM DIY projects. The DIY Sugar Scrub activity offered a hands-on experience that merges creativity with scientific principles learned in science while fostering a deeper understanding of chemistry and biology. This hands-on activity allowed students to explore the properties of natural ingredients (various oils), and the chemical reactions involved in combining different substances. This project enhances their STEM skills and encourages critical thinking and problem-solving as they experiment with various formulations to achieve the desired texture and scent. The tactile nature of the project makes learning engaging and fun, sparking curiosity about the science behind everyday products.
Moreover, the Sugar Scrub project promotes important life skills such as teamwork, communication, and using household products to make your skincare products. As students collaborate to create their sugar scrubs, they build social connections and learn the value of working together to achieve a common goal.By supporting this initiative, you invested in a unique educational experience that empowers young minds to explore STEM fields while fostering creativity and collaboration.”
