I teach middle school students in a poverty stricken inner-city public school. One hundred percent of the student population in our district receives free lunch and breakfast. The school, which we love, houses students of typical development as well as those with disabilities. In my classroom in every grade I teach I have students with visual impairments who require enlarged print to access the curriculum. I also have students with leaning disabilities and other developmental disabilities. These students would benefit from a visual and hands-on learning experiences to help them grasp difficult concepts. Research has proven that students benefit from different teaching approaches when learning new concepts, because students learn in different ways.
