My middle school language class is going deskless this year. The idea of removing desks in language classes is one that many teachers are adopting as it provides students with more freedom of movement and more space to engage in conversations, games, and learning activities. The lapdesks and clipboards will allow students to take notes when needed, or when performing a writing task, while the storage drawers will give them a place to keep their supplies. In our novice level classes, students focus predominantly on oral communication and interpretive tasks which is why desks are not a necessity, however, students still need a writing surface. With your help, they will have all the comfort they need in the classroom to be a focused learner. In my experience with deskless classrooms, students are more engaged as they do not have desks to hide behind or to rest their head on, and they can more easily work with all students in the class.
