  • Swish! Nothing But Net!

    Funded Dec 4, 2023

Thank you so much for your generosity! Your donations have allowed for my elementary students to work on their basketball skills this winter. The students were excited to use the mini hoops and to be able to work in teams by having the pinnies to separate them into groups. They also enjoyed the new basketballs too! The cones also helped in organizing our courts, in setting up our basketball skills practice and for creating obstacles for our ball handling drills. Not only were they able to use these materials during gym class but also in our physical education classes during February vacation acceleration academy and before school in our morning program. Again, thank you so much for your support!”

  • Let’s Get It Bouncing!!

    Funded Aug 14, 2019

Thank you so much for providing the materials needed for the start of the school year. It has been great to have organized color coated bags of materials. It makes clean up and set up easy for classes. The mini air compressor has also made it possible for our equipment to be filled with air and ready to go quite quickly.

My physical education classes were so excited to use or new supplies for the year. The students in my gym classes have loved being able to use the kickballs for our five player kickball games in our aerobic unit. The footballs are being used for our flag football unit with the third, fourth, and fifth graders. The soccer balls are being used for our first and second graders to implement kicking skills. In addition, the basketballs, frisbees, and jumpropes will be used later in the year to support those curriculum units for my elementary classes.

Again, your generosity is greatly appreciated. You have helped support physical education for over 500 students for an entire school year. Thank you so much!”

  • Food Group Learning and Fun!

    Funded Oct 24, 2018

Your generous donation has allowed my students to have nutrition lessons that come to life.

The food group posters have given my elementary students real life examples of each of the food groups. I also have been able to use the bean bags for students to play guess my food from each of the food groups. I have my classes give clues to an individual student who has a bean bag that I hold behind him or her to guess the mystery food item. I also had my students use the posters and bean bags to draw and label their own myplate meals. The nutrition bingo game has also reinforced my food group lessons. My classes have enjoyed using these materials so much and it has made my curriculum even more engaging for my students. Thank you so much for helping to make my health lessons come alive.”

  • Learning to Move!!

    Funded Jan 22, 2018

Thank you so much for buying the students in my school an entire physical education curriculum through SPARK. The lessons you have provided have given my students an educational experience that are aligned with national standards. You have assisted in helping students from kindergarten through fifth grade have a physical education program that is brought to life through researched and real life movement activities.

In addition, my classes have units based on fitness and specific skills which have task cards and assessments for each activity. My students were excited to do fitness circuits, chasing and tag games, and jumping rope through the fitness units. They also especially like the spotlight on skill units which focus on sports. My classes love learning how to throw, catch, dribble, and kick through sports such as football, basketball, soccer and baseball. They enjoy being able to use equipment such as a hockey foam sticks and tee ball bats for working on striking and hand eye coordination. My students are also interested in our volleyball unit that we will be doing soon through the SPARK curriculum.

Overall, you have brought my students much joy and a love for movement. This curriculum is building a foundation for them to be more engaged in their own physical fitness. It will also help my students not just this year but in future years to come. I greatly appreciate not only what you have given my classes but what you have provided me as an educator to enhance my own curriculum.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Carter

  • Kids In Motion!

    Funded Nov 15, 2016

Thank you so much for your generous donation! You have allowed my students to be able to be more physically active. The parachutes are awesome. My students especially my kindergarten ones were so excited to use the parachute because it was so colorful and huge. They loved lifting it high and low. They went in and out. I would call their colors to go under the parachute too.

In addition to the parachutes, my primary grade students enjoyed using the beanbags letters and numbers. We would use them in relay races to put numbers and letters in order. We also used the beanbag numbers for addition and subtraction problems. These beanbags allowed my students to to bring number and letter recognition into my gym classes to further their knowledge.

Along with these tools, the colorful cones and pinnies helped to organize my physical education classes. We were able to use the cones for goals and to organize teams. The students also enjoyed wearing their pinnies too because it helped for them to be able to recognize who was on their team. Overall, my classes benefited greatly from your donation and we appreciate it so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Carter

  • Stepping Up!

    Funded Dec 28, 2015

    Dear Donors,

Thank you so much for helping my students to be able to be more physically active during my gym classes and throughout the day. When they first saw the pedometers my students were so excited! They wanted to wear them right away so that they could see how much they move. My second graders especially could not stop moving and wanted to see how many steps that they could get immediately. My older students also loved being to able to graph their steps over time. They were trying to beat their amount of steps each day.

The resources that you provided for were so useful and essential in getting my classes to want to move as much as possible. It has been awesome to see my primary grade students being able to describe what activities create more steps for themselves. They also have shown a great deal of responsibility in making sure to remember to pass them out and to take care to put them away at the end of each class.

My next steps with the pedometers are to have my primary grade students estimate how many steps it would take to get to certain parts of the school. I also plan on having them estimate how many steps they think a certain gym activity might be by using prior data from the steps taken to do yoga, dance, and baseball. With the older students I plan on having them tally their total steps and translate the information into miles. I also plan to use these pedometers with my students next year to track their effort in how much they move during physical education class.

Again, thank you for your donations. These pedometers have been great to use with my students. I will be continuing to use these tools in the future to help motivate my students to want to exercise.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Carter

My school is a neighborhood school in an inner city. My students come from low income families and are second language learners. They are at high risk for being overweight and obese. They love to be physically active but live in an area that lacks the proper facilities and safe places for them to play.
