Math Power Hour!
Funded Jan 9, 2018Thank you so much for your donations to our Math Power Hour project! My students were beyond thrilled to start using the materials. They love using the self-checking magnetic boards and often argue about who gets to use them next! I love that I was able to purchase a few different sets to meet the needs of my learners. Some are working on counting objects, while others are identifying attributes of shapes. In addition, now that I have the magnetic boards I can purchase additional sets of math and literacy magnetic boards to further their learning.
Another fun material you helped purchase was the tens frame dominoes. The students have been having fun using the dominoes and don't even realize that they are practicing numbers on a ten frame while they are playing! A bonus to this material is that there were two levels included so I was able to split the game into 2 games for more to play!
We have also been using the Power Pens, the durable number lines and the comparing games as options to use during our center time. These are always popular choices and are being used every day to practice and reinforce skills we have learned earlier in the year.
Math Power Hour is the most exciting time of our day and when the students are the most engaged in learning! I have seen an increase in participation and acquisition of math skills since receiving these materials. I look forward to many more years of engagement with future classes with these exciting materials.”

Write on! Wipe off!
Funded Jun 4, 2014Thank you so much for donating to my whiteboard project! My students are eager to use them daily and they are SUCH an improvement over the cheap Dollar Store plates I was previously using. Another benefit is that we are helping the environment by making less copies and saving paper!
We use them in phonics weekly as we learn to stretch out words to write the sounds we hear. We also use them in math as we learn to draw pictures to help us solve our problems. Whiteboard has also become a center during free time where students practice writing their letters neatly and write their sight words in sentences.
Thank you again for your support of my students and our classroom environment!”

This classroom project was brought to life by 100 Women in Hedge Funds and 9 other donors.iPad for Integrating Technology
Funded Nov 14, 2013Thank you so much again for your donation to my iPAd project! Often as soon as my students walk in the classroom door they ask "Who gets the iPads today?" I love to see their enthusiasm!
We have been using an app called FarFaria the most. It has over 1000 leveled books that students can either read to themselves or read along as someone narrates it for them with music in the background. What I love most is that they are so excited to listen/read books!
I have also been using a variety of different apps specific to student needs. For example, one student has very poor fine motor skills and is reluctant to practice letter writing. For him I found an app where he traces letters to practice letter formation. He loves earning "stars" every time he correctly forms a letter without a guide. For other students counting objects seems boring, but counting them on the iPad is motivating.
Not only are my lowest, most academic challenged students benefiting, but my higher students are able to work on apps that enrich and challenge them to new levels as well.
We love the iPads and will be using them for years to come to help meet the high standards set for us! thank you again for your generosity!”

Building Reading Fluency and Comprehension with MP3 Players
Funded Sep 19, 2012Thank you so much for donating to my project! This year my students have been eager to listen to recordings of books because of your donations!
The impact in my students' reading abilities has been great! 24 of my 48 students are reading at/above grade level already and we are only mid-way through the school year. Many more are working hard and are on track to be on grade level by the end of the year. As I listen to them read I have noticed that their fluency is higher, due to the opportunities to listen to the recorded books on the MP3 players.
I have seen other side benefits as well. One is increased motivation to finish work and move to the listening center. Another is increased opportunities to practice sharing and compromise as they choose books and work together to find their book on the MP3 players. Many from my low-income families who do not have access to the rich literature at home are getting excited about reading at school!”
