  • Pencils, and Markers, and Erasers! Oh My!

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

We are about 3 months into the school year. I have gotten to know my students and we are diving deep into our 5th grade math skills. Currently, we are learning all about decimal numbers!

Due to your generosity, I have NEVER had to deny a student access to their school work because he or she did not have a pencil, a glue stick, or other needed material to complete their math work.

My students have the comfort of knowing that they are cared and provided for when they come to my classroom. They take good care of the materials because each student has a number that associates with their pencil parking number. This number is used for their laptop assignments, notebooks, and dry erase markers and erasers.

Again, thank you for taking the time to show your support for the education of our young people. We are forever grateful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Marie Maignan

  • Breaking Bread with our Community

    Funded Mar 12, 2023

Our school celebrated the "Hidden Heroes" of our school back on May 16th. There was a full house with student volunteers and parent guests. Our PTA, custodial and kitchen staff were all in attendance. We also recognized our paraprofessionals, crossing guards, and Parent Coordinator.

Your donation helped pay for decor and party supplies to make for a most festive evening. The school cafeteria was transformed into an elegant dining space for our honorees. Our photo station captured all the smiles while our student volunteers chased balloons at the end of the evening.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity. Our third graders brainstormed, planned, and collaborated to see this project to the end. Your contributions helped pull it all together.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Marie Maignan

  • Mathematicians Need Pencils!

    Funded Oct 26, 2022

In the few months since your donations reached out classroom, I have not had to purchase any pencils for our daily use. Whenever a student comes to our math class, I have a basket of freshly sharpened pencils with new erasers ready for them to use.

This has built a trust in our class that the whatever students need to be successful for the day will be provided for them.

We have used the clip boards in our Shakespeare classroom which is a space for rehearsing and performing scenes from the play we are learning this year. The clipboards help us to write comfortably in a space that does not have desks. I think the clipboards bring an air of professionalism to their work.

Thank you again for your generosity!”

  • Math Is Stem and It Matters to Us

    Funded Oct 13, 2022

Thanks to your generosity, IXL is a part of our world in our math community! IXL provides my students with practice on the math skills they need help in at their level. Students who started the school year unable to multiply using the basic facts have now memorized them! Other students have shown mastery and growth in skills that they were lacking from the 4th grade.

I assign skills from IXL to help my students review the materials we are learning. After we have explored and investigated a topic, they now have access to review the material at their own pace.

This makes review a weekly part of their lives and encourages strong study habits. Students will not cram before a big test. Instead, they will be have a solid foundation to grow on!”

    Mrs. Marie Maignan

  • The Perfect Digital Duo!

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

In the months since we've received our funding for BrainingCamp our class has used it to explore fractions and their relationships to 1 whole. Students are able to manipulate the tiles using their iPads and Chromebooks. They learned quickly how to share the links with each other to compare their work. Students use writing to explain their math thinking which further solidifies their understanding.

Kami has been invaluable for our digital learning. Students are able to write directly onto PDF files. This is so helpful for students who are absent. They are able to access the "paperwork" right away. Kami helps us as teachers to keep costs down by reducing the amount of papers we print out for assignments.

Thank you for being a part of our school community. Your generosity has made an impact!”

  • Books We See Ourselves In!

    Funded Jan 10, 2022

It has been a few months since we received the delivery of books to our classroom. In that time, several of the books were placed on the banned lists of many school districts in southern states.

This created even greater interest among my students for the big box of books and materials that had arrived. I created a list of students' names, placed them in a bag and conducted a raffle. Students were allowed to choose which book they could borrow for a 2 week period.

The results were amazing. The kids were reading and discussing which book they wanted to borrow next. Students were discussing the stories and comparing notes with each other. We had class discussions about why the books were so important and why they would be banned by some school districts.

I thank you for your generosity and encourage you to share your gifts with teachers and students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Marie Maignan

  • Digital Manipulatives

    Funded Mar 22, 2021

Last year, my 4th grade students spent the school year in a completely remote option. I never met them in person, yet I was charged with teaching them the New York State Math curriculum for 4th graders. I had to make a flat, 2-dimensional computer screen interactive and concrete so they would be able to grasp the materials we were learning about.

BrainingCamp made that possible. My students were able to manipulate fraction tiles, rubber bands on a geoboard, base-10 blocks, and so much more. We were able to use the same materials online that we had back in our classroom.

Now that we are back in person, I have some of my students as 5th graders this year. I have noticed their enthusiasm and eagerness to use the math tools that we worked with last year. This year, they can touch and hold the materials, but we continue to use BrainingCamp. My students have access to the site and use it to help them complete math assignments. Because the site is open-ended, students do not need instructions from me to access the site. Thank you for making such an amazing resource available to my kids.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Marie Maignan

  • Learning through Music

    Funded Oct 22, 2020

I wanted to share with you how the subscription to Flocabulary has helped my 4th grade fully remote students. Every day, we start our lessons with Minute Math digital worksheets. In the beginning, it would take them almost 10 minutes to complete them; I wanted everyone to feel successful.

When I shared the Flocabulary multiplication and division playlist menu, my kids took to it like ducks to water. They loved the rhythms and beats in the songs. The catchy tunes made it easy for students to memorize the facts. Some students shared that they would have the music playing in the background during the day.

I've shared photos of the most recent Minute Math worksheets. Not only have I been able to increase the difficulty of the math equations, but my students have been able to decrease the amount of time needed to solve them. I now only give 3 minutes and most students have a full page completed in that time.

I've used Google Slides to assign a quick response to a specific video when I want to check for their understanding of the topic. We use the videos as a "commercial break" during our lesson.

I use Flocabulary for more than math. Last week after watching the inauguration of President Biden, I shared the "Week in Review" video and my kids loved it.

Thank you so much for everything. Your donation has made a huge impact!”

  • Science Magazines

    Funded Sep 20, 2020

I want to take the time to say thank you for helping to bring science reading material to my students. My 4th graders can read articles about animals and the scientists who study them. They can read articles about every day items like macaroni and cheese and learn the science behind them.

My favorite articles are the astronomy articles that teach students about all things outer space. The conversations we have about Mars and the moon often go way past our 50 minute Zoom science sessions.

SuperScience makes teaching easy by providing resources that are ready made. It's like having a buffet of items to choose from. Because I am teaching fully remote students, I can easily upload the worksheets or parts of them onto a Google Slide or Google Doc for students to interact with.

Please take a moment to look at the pictures I shared to see examples of the articles and worksheets.

I truly appreciate your donations. Rest assured that my students are engaged with science even in our remote capacity.”

  • Thesauruses for My 5th Graders

    Funded Jun 28, 2007

Thank you so much for the gift of vocabulary for my students. They are going to be so excited. When I wrote this proposal, I had a different class. My new students are just as eager and wiling to work hard as they were. I know they will dive right into these resources and start learning. I will send out the pictures and letters as soon as I can.

    Thanks again,

    Mari”
