Empowering Minds: Diverse Chapter Books for Inquiring Minds
Funded Aug 15, 2024I wish to thank you for giving so generously to our class library by funding my project "Empowering Minds: Diverse Chapter Books for Inquiring Minds. My students were so excited to have new books in the library to start the school year off right. My second graders are avid readers and have been reading all the books that they see themselves in.
They have especially loved the Omar and Saqid books. They are asking for more books in these series. Thank you so much for sparking an interest in reading in my students. Many of the students opt to read in the morning than playing with stem bins.
Thank you again from the bottom of this teachers heart for sparking a love of reading in my class!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Lockett

Funded Aug 9, 2023Thank you for the donation for the TPT gift card. The students loved all the resources that we were able to purchase. This gift allowed my ML students who are working on phonemic awareness skills to learn in a fun way through games.
I saw the growth that they made in using these resources to become more confident students in there reading and phonics skill as the school year progressed. The students enjoyed the games and learned new skills in a fun way.
I appreciate you and your contribution in helping my students become confident readers!”

Let's Find Out! News for Kids to Read.
Funded Mar 19, 2023Thank you so much for your generous donations to my Scholastic News Magazine. My students really enjoy reading the magazine weekly while practicing their reading comprehension skills: key details. They love reading the magazine during their reading time in the library nook or carpet area.
Many of my students come from diverse backgrounds and this magazine helps them learn about the real-world jobs, locations, holidays that they then take home and share with their families. Thank you once again for donating the magazines to help my students become more proficient readers while building their reading skills. My students and I are very grateful for wonderful donors like you.”

Little Spots of Learning Through Books
Funded Aug 9, 2022Thank you so much for the books! The kids were really excited to read the books that represent them and socially and emotionally. They are reading the books that match how they are feeling with the feelings emoji. The kids are learning to recognize how they are feeling based on the feelings books we have read in class.
They are so excited each day to share with one another why they chose the feeling emoji that they did. The kids are then asking each other if they are okay and if they can help them.
Thank you again my class is learning to express their feelings and voice to one another how they are feeling. The kids all seem to be drawn to the little spot of emotion books right now as they are learning how to regulate their emotions in a positive way.
The kids are also enjoying reading the books that show them in the stories or the holidays they celebrate.”

Mrs. Lockett

Funded Nov 17, 2017My classroom really appreciate the books you all purchased for our library. The books will help in encouraging students that there are a variety of genres to read and help build their reading skills. Many of my students do not like to read and the graphic novels such as Babymouse, Big Nate and Dork Diaries make reading more fun. The pictures and bubbles with dialogue help to look at the pictures and decode the words. This is a great reading skill to help with tricky words.
Reading in my classroom looks like students engaged in a good book. Many of them sit in their favorite carpet spot and read their books during independent reading time. The room is buzzing with conversation about the book they are reading. The students recommend books to each other. They also inquire when the book will be available for them to read. I have seen a great excitement over the new book and their eagerness to read more.
The new books have really helped encourage my reluctant readers to engage in reading. They see that the other students are excited about the books especially the National Geographic books about animals. Many of them have been asking about how many types of fish are found in the ocean and do they really look like that? I have not seen so much excitement for books since the beginning of the school year when I introduced our class library.
Thank you all for giving my students the opportunity to read new and exciting books to not only engage and excite them but to build their brains through books!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Lockett
