We MUST emphasize the importance of teaching our children to be creative, one-of-a-kind, unique thinkers. We are always having to justify the fine arts in education. Why? Authentic, INNATE, intuitive, & fearless creativity trumps LEARNED historical, linguistic, mathematical and scientific abilities. Was it not CREATIVITY that invented history, language, math, science, and everything else human-made in our world? It wasn't algebraic equations the archaeologists discovered on the ancient cave walls. Leonardo drew a picture of his flying machine before he built it, & his drawing outlived his flying machine! I feel privileged to teach the power of art & creativity to my elementary students. I aspire to empower every single one of them with the confidence, courage, determination, desire, & relentless drive to remain creative--no matter who or what tries to stop them!
