Chromebooks For All!
Funded Jan 1, 2017My students and I are so thankful for your contribution to our classroom. This month, with the aid of the ChromeBooks, I was able to successfully implement language arts centers into our weekly routine. The second day of ELA centers, my students cheered when they saw it on the schedule. One center is on the ChromeBooks where my English Language Leaners learn phonics skills and practice fluency by listening to books and the rest of my students take quizzes on books they have finished reading.
The ChromeBooks have also opened up the opportunity for conversations about digital citizenship. Fourth and fifth graders need to learn how to be safe, respectful, and responsible with technology. My students are learning why it is important to use the programs asked of them instead of whatever they choose which helps them stay safe in a digital world. My class is also strengthening their computer skills. Some students have gotten to type their essays and other have used them to conduct research.”

Funded Dec 24, 2014Thank you so much for your donations and for helping to get the dry erase board into my classroom. It is amazing how helpful a simple board can be in the learning process in the age of technology. As English Language Learners and Students With Disabilities, many of my students are visual learners, and need to refer to content constantly. Before obtaining the board, I was only able to display information for short periods of time and on chart paper. Having the board has allowed me to keep content on display for longer, which my students are constantly referring to, but it is where my students work out many of their ideas and thinking.”

Graphic Novels for Reluctant Readers Needed!
Funded Dec 18, 2014My students, their families and I thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. Our school, like many around the country, is currently facing many budget cuts. As a result there is a limit to the resources that I am provided with. Without donors like you, thousands of classrooms in the United States would go without. The books that you have donated have helped my students tremendously. In the past, my students got to pick new books to read every Monday and Friday during our D.E.A.R (Drop Everything and Read) time. Since my classroom library barely had enough books to go around, and the books that were available were old and outdated, my students read very little. Getting them to pick up a book and finish it was like pulling teeth. They had no interest in reading what so ever. Now that we have plenty of books my students are constantly reading. They are reading two to three books a week! Sometimes I'll even catch them reading while in line! The other day I overheard two of my students challenging each other to see who could finish reading all the books in their bin first. It is amazing how enthusiastic they are about getting to the next reading level and getting to read those books. I recently tested all of them to see how much their reading level has improved and I am happy to report that ALL of them have moved up two reading levels (on average).”

Reading Nook: Where Imagination Unfolds!
Funded Sep 11, 2013Thank you for your donations. Your contribution has brought a rug and bean bags for our classroom library. Now that my students have a cozy place to read they can enjoy the many books in our classroom library. Students are excited to pick up a book and sit on the bean bags and read! It is amazing! It is allowing them to continue practicing their reading skills. This is highly important as the new Common Core State Standards require that students work with harder text more frequently and having my students excited to read makes it much more easier to get them prepared.”

Funded Sep 14, 2013Thank you for your donations. Your contribution has brought 100 books into my classroom. Having these nonfiction books has allow my students to be furthered exposed to relevant topics at their grade level. It is allowing them to continue practicing their reading skills, but also how to work with information text and find supporting details when explaining what they have read. This is highly important as the new Common Core State Standards require that students work with nonfiction text more frequently. Having these books in our classroom is helping my students get prepared.”

Funded Nov 3, 2012My students, their families and I thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. Our school, like many around the country, is currently facing many budget cuts. Time for Kids has helped my students tremendously. My students love reading, but in the past had no variety to choose from. Since getting TFK a few weeks back my students are excited to receive each new publication! They love reading the feature article and being part of the discussions in class. I believe that having TFK as part of my Literacy curriculum and seeing how much my students enjoy using it will have an impact in their success this year.”

IXL: Math Practice For All!
Funded Nov 7, 2012My students, their families and I thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. Our school, like many around the country, is currently facing many budget cuts. As a result there is a limit to the resources that I am provided with. Without donors like you, thousands of classrooms in the United States would go without.
IXL.com has helped my students tremendously. My students love math, but in the past had no fun way of practicing skills. Since getting access to IXL.com a few weeks back my students have clocked in over 50 hours practicing math so far! They have been using the program in class during center time (which is right after my math block), during after school, and at home. They have solved over 5,000 math problems already. They take a lot of pride in continuing to practice until they get a gold metalâwhich means that they have mastered the skill. I recently started tracking how many gold metals each student has earned, and it is amazing how hard they have been working. Their enthusiasm is incredible. I believe that having IXL as part of my math curriculum and seeing how much my students enjoy using it will have an impact in their success this yearâI already see it!”

Reinforcing Math Skills the Fun Way!
Funded Dec 5, 2011Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. The math games that you donated have helped my students every single day. We've used them to practice skills previously taught, current skills and as enrichment for advance students. They have come in handy not just during math time, but also during test prep. It is amazing how quick a student can master a skill when practicing it with a game.
