  • We Want Our School Newspaper To Look Professional

    Funded Feb 8, 2017

We are so grateful here that you have enabled us to access modern technology. My classroom is based on project-based learning in which we empower students to complete their work independently. Some of their choices often involve printing documents in color. You have allowed us to make this happen.

In the classroom, students are using the printer to make posters engaging. Even if I do not require it, they believe it makes a more persuasive impact and I am happy that I can accommodate them.

Students on my newspaper club in particular are using the technology to improve the quality of their publication. We thank you eternally.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Ross

  • We Need a Slow Cooker to Start Our Cooking Club

    Funded Jan 5, 2017

I cannot begin to thank you for your generosity. We are a small school trying to help a new group of immigrants get ready for college. They work all day trying to master science and humanities classes; still, life beckons and being able to successfully prepare a meal is an important skill that our students will now be able to take with them to college.

My students ask me every week, "What are we making for cooking club?". They greet me at 8:15 in the morning to assemble the weekly meal to be consumed later in the day. They learn how to measure, calculate, and season to taste while enjoying the benefits of their labors.

    Thank you once again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Ross

  • Karaoke Machine to Express Ourselves.

    Funded Nov 23, 2016

We would like to thank you for your donation of the karaoke machine. We really appreciate it. You help to make our school a place with new technology and options.

We use the microphone in Mr. Ross's class when we do presentations to make them more professional. We also use the machine on Saturdays when we do karaoke for fun. We do not have music class so it is a fun opportunity to be creative.

Right now we are planning our next senior dance and we are going to use the karaoke machine to raise money for our senior trip, prom, and yearbooks. Thank you again for helping us in our school.”

  • We Work Hard In Class And We Get Hungry Sometimes

    Funded Dec 5, 2016

I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for your donation to my classroom. My students are currently working on their semester research papers, which can get rigorous and requires concentration and endurance. One way to keep them motivated is through food! It really helps a lot.

When I opened my closet and pulled out a box of fruit snacks, it brought joy to my students. They thanked me and it instantly improved rapport during these times when I have to make them work really hard. They found it easier to get back to work with a little sustenance in their bellies.

My students are now completing their first semester of U.S. History. They are ready to make a research-based claim on the following question: Was the Civil War inevitable? They will be presenting their results soon. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Ross

  • We Came to this Country to Express Ourselves

    Funded Apr 21, 2016

My students and I are so grateful for your gift. This has resulted in a great deal of additional options in the classroom and for our student government. We used these last spring for our portfolio presentations, and my students truly rose to the occasion and improved the professionalism of their speeches. They felt as if they were respected as one would when providing space for a professional to present their knowledge. In addition, we have used the lectern and gavel for our student government meetings and special events, such as when our school president shared his personal story to younger members of the school community.

The students are happy to use the materials; they even think it is fun. At the same time, I have seen how the tools help them to focus and take themselves seriously as young scholars and professionals. I think you so very much for your generous support of my efforts to help our young people develop the soft skills they need.

This year, I have started using the tools as we develop our projects throughout the year. The students can see from the outset that the class is designed to treat them with respect and hold them to high standards. Our extra curricular club has just gotten off the ground and we look forward to practicing our parliamentary procedure with your help!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Ross

  • Paper to Practice for Regents Exams

    Funded Nov 9, 2013

Regents season is upon us, and with your help my students are getting the preparation they need. For most of them, passing the Global history Regents exams is a monumental task since they come to our school lacking in the fundamental skills and background knowledge expected of 10th graders. What that means is, my job requires a lot of facilitated practice in these areas and that means PAPER. Fortunately, with your help, I have not had to worry about having what I need to supply students with practice activities. Thank you so very, very much.

My students are so grateful once they realize the gravity of the exam and the time they need to dedicate to passing, and just simple things like giving them practice exams to work on and help in doing so are appreciated by my kids very much. Unfortunately, budgets do not always provide for this without the help from generous people like you.

While the exam is still two months away, I guarantee you that my students are receiving all the help I can give them thanks to your gifts. I hope you will continue to support projects like these, as you are filling a huge gap in our school system's success. On behalf of my students, thank you once again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Ross

  • Please Help Us Study For Our Regents Exams!

    Funded Dec 27, 2010

My students and I cannot thank you enough for your generosity in donating towards this project. New York high school students must pass five exams to graduate, including U.S. History and Government. The exams covers the entirety of American History, and there is thus a lot of concepts and vocabulary to learn. These cards provide a great tool for review, both in and out of class.

At our school, the students are all English Language Learners, which adds to the challenge of understanding critical vocabulary. Students can study these cards in and out of class, even on the subway ride home from school. Several students regularly ask me to quiz them on the words they have learned, and I find the study of these cards aids in their comprehension greatly.

We are truly grateful for your kindness in helping prepare for our required exam.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Ross

  • Flashcards To Help Students Graduate

    Funded Feb 3, 2009

It is crunch time at my school.  My students are a few weeks away from taking the exams required for graduation.  The U.S. History exam is a challenge for any high school student; for these students, the English language is an added obstacle to overcome.

The six hundred key concepts explained on these cards make them a great resource for the students to use at home, as a supplement to classwork. Students report that they use the cards on the subway and waiting for the bus as well - true New Yorkers!

On behalf of my history students, I thank you so much for your kind support.  It will undoubtedly make a difference this month.”

  • We The Future

    Funded Jan 28, 2009

It has been truly rewarding to make use of these books.  By enabling the students to study this vital document at their own pace, my students have become quite the Constitutional scholars!

The materials you provided helped the students understand the legal issues surrounding several current Constitutional issues.  For example, one group pontificated on how the Framers would approve of schools monitoring students' Facebook pages.  Other groups have tackled the assault weapons ban, the death penalty, and religion and schools.

We will make use of these texts for years to come.  Thank you so much!”

I teach U.S. History to 11th-grade students in a new high-need school comprised entirely of new immigrants who have four years or less living in the country. English is obviously a hurdle they struggle to overcome. Over 90% of the students receive free lunch. We have set expectations very high and aim to get our students well-prepared for higher education!
