  • We Want to Make Our Podcast Studio Professional

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

I am extremely grateful for your generous donations that helped make this project possible. Before this year, the students had to haul in chairs from the classroom when they wanted to record. Your gifts helped to make our podcast studio a pleasure in which to work. They consider themselves legitimate podcasters, and indeed they are. Two students in particular have gravitated to the medium based on their interest in analyzing volleyball games. I can't get them out of the studio!

At our school, students typically have not been exposed to the types of opportunities their peers have at other schools in the city. With gifts like these, they can now consider more possibilities for vocation and avocation. This was the type of equipment that our school's budget cannot easily accommodate, so I am very grateful that you were able to help. I am humbled watching GMA knowing that you did something nice for my students. Thanks so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Ross

  • Help My Student-Athletes Improve Their Skills

    Funded Jan 6, 2022

I would like to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for your generosity this year. My student-athletes enjoyed the greatest success in school history this year, advancing to the playoffs and division final. Coming back from a COVID year of remote learning, we had ground to make up in fundamental skills and conditioning. This equipment helped facilitate skills-based drills that allowed the athletes to develop.

Many of the student-athletes come to our school having limited experience competing in team sports and so we must make up the gap in order to be competitive. We did that this year with your help.

Thank you once again, and be well.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Ross

  • Help Inspire My History Students With the Best Writing

    Funded Dec 18, 2021

I hope you all are well. I am writing to express my gratitude for your generous donation this year, which allowed my students to explore multiple points of view as they collected research for their graduation-worthy essays. These days, students have innumerable possible sources to use for research at their fingertips. However, determining which ones are good sources is an important learning process.

With your donations, I was able to prepare a research library that gave students a tangible experience of comparing points of view as they pursue their understanding of important topics in U.S. history.

Again, sincere thanks for your donations. It allowed for an important enhancement to my classroom library that will continue to provide benefits in coming years.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Ross

  • Snacks for the Classroom

    Funded Dec 23, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous support! Your generosity helped my students get through some long days this year. In particular, we found these snacks to be most needed during internship class, which came at the end of the day on Tuesdays and Thursdays when our energy was at a bit of a low point. The crunchy and chewy goods helped us refocus and think about what we needed to do.

My students were appreciative of these items, as they are not normally permitted to eat in the classroom. The snacks gave some needed support and were something different from the school food they had been eating every day.

By helping my students get through internship class, they were able to participate in online seminars with real world professionals, and plan for their future careers moving forward. Again, I think you sincerely for your generosity.”

  • Our Basketball Team Desperately Needs a Shot Clock

    Funded Mar 29, 2019

We are really looking forward to the new season. My head coach and I are working hard to give these kids the best athletic learning experience we can through our basketball team. Most have not played much organized ball before, and they relish the opportunity. Having the materials we need is really going to make the difference.

We share the building with four other schools, and that means four other athletic directors, dozens of coaches, and in all the mix our shotclocks are ALWAYS going down - right in the middle of the games. You can't imagine the frustration it causes when a pair of ticked off refs anxious to get home have to wait for us to try and assemble a working system. The kids only share in our frustration.

With your generosity, we now have the ability to pull out a working shot clock whenever we need one. We also plan to use them in practice and during scrimmages in our practice gym. Thank you so, so much for your kind donations!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Ross

  • Students Want to Print the Real News

    Funded Aug 20, 2018

Your generosity has been extremely helpful. Thanks to your support, we now have a fully functioning printer that can publish our school newspaper in color. The students are extremely satisfied.

For them, the process of preparing for and conducting interviews in their second (or perhaps third) language can be arduous and challenging. However, this project allows them to use their voice and write about topics that are of concern to them.

With the ability to produce a document in full color as an end-product, our students can truly see the rewards for their hard work. For your generous contributions to this process, we are eternally grateful. Thank you so much.”

  • Students Don't Have Anywhere to Put Their Coats

    Funded Mar 29, 2017

I cannot thank you enough for the support you have given to me through your generous donation. You have made my classroom a professional learning space with real amenities that make students feel respected.

It gets cold in the winter here, and students come with often many layers. Without lockers, they have nowhere to put their coats. Simply put. Their only options are too leave them on a shelf somewhere or haul them up and down five flights of stairs while trying to do their classwork.

Your donation has helped to provide a resource that should be considered mandatory for all classes if we expect students to learn. Thank you SO MUCH!”

  • We Need Books That Discuss Today's Political Issues

    Funded May 21, 2017

I cannot thank you enough for your generous support. I came up with this great idea for a final product where the students identify a "fantasy cabinet" to solve the problems of today. They are using your donated books to give them ideas about policy solutions and leaders needed to implement them. They are becoming inspired by the world of ideas made by people who care about issues and care about the facts, not just rhetoric.

Students use information they learn in these books to construct their own detailed policy ideas that they "sell" to a panel of evaluators. Students are choosing historical leaders such as Clara Barton and Frederick Douglass and pairing them with leaders and thinkers of today like Bernie Sanders and Phoebe Robinson. Students enjoy trying to disprove misstatements made by our current group of politicians.

Thank you again for helping build my library!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Ross

  • Books to Research and Games To Keep Our Minds Sharp

    Funded Apr 25, 2017

Your gift fulfilled a great need in my classroom at this time of the year. The students are working hard to finish their research projects, and they get nervous that they cannot find the right sources. It helps for me to have relevant books on hand for them to use. Alternative perspectives on history are particularly helpful.

With the addition of games, you have allowed my students to have a needed study break, especially after lunch, which allows them to get their minds clear while still exercising some skills of gaming.

Once again, I appreciate your generosity on behalf of my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Ross

  • We Want To Be Organized and Professional

    Funded Dec 29, 2016

I truly thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generous donation. It seems like a simple thing - folders - but you can't undervalue how important simply organizational techniques can help our students. Many of them simply didn't develop strong study skills like organizing papers instead of wadding them up in your backpack.

With your kind gift, my students can keep track of their important research scaffolds they use for their graduation worthy portfolio presentations. This is the first time for many of them in doing "real" research, and they need all the help they can get. No one is losing papers now!

We will continue to use your help as long as it lasts! Thanks so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Ross

I teach U.S. History to 11th-grade students in a new high-need school comprised entirely of new immigrants who have four years or less living in the country. English is obviously a hurdle they struggle to overcome. Over 90% of the students receive free lunch. We have set expectations very high and aim to get our students well-prepared for higher education!
