We're All About Science in 4th Grade!
Funded Jan 31, 2022Thank you Utah State Board of Education, for championing education for inner city kids and for funding my project! Thank you for supporting my class! We are delighted to report that the books and microscopes that you funded, are having a wonderful impact on hands-on learning in the 4th grade!
Students love their new science books! They easily, clearly and visually show students science topics in an accessible, student-accessible way. The microscopes help enrich our science lessons and help students learn that there is a lot to learn about the world when we look at it closely. Students have used prepared scientific slides to analyze and see leaves and stems up close. From flowers to even our class aquarium, students have had some amazing science experiences with their microscopes!
Thank you for purchasing these science books and materials for us! They are helping our class become better scientists!”

Funded Dec 22, 2021What a wonderful year of learning we have had! We have learned so much about the individuals who have shaped our culture and history! Thank you for providing a world of learning in our classroom with these wonderful books!
The books you have provided have given my fourth graders the opportunity to learn about the lives and livelihoods of people who have changed the world. The great impact of this project have been that my students have found role models in these books and are considering following similar career paths in their future. Often students have come up to me during their reading and say "Miss Winslow, did you know that this person______?" How eager they are to tell me an interesting fact about their biography subject! They are excited to share with me and their peers about what they learn.
My students were given the opportunity to select a biography of their choice from the books, read the entire book, taken notes on the famous person in their notebooks, and created a one-page poster to display their work to be shared with the school in the hallways.
Thank you again for supporting this project and opening up a world of excellent biography reading for our class! You have made a difference!”

Funded Nov 22, 2021What a wonderful gift you have given our class! We love to read our Harry Potter books in class read aloud time! Students have their own book and they follow along, and the books are inspiring many of my students to help by reading aloud in class. We have followed Harry through his first year of Hogwarts and are now are thrilled to watch what happens at the beginning his second year!
We have completed reading book one, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and have started reading the Chamber of Secrets! Students are excited to tell other students in the school about our reading. The sixth grade class has even borrowed our set of book 1, so that they can read it too!
What a joy reading has been this year because of these books! The books keep our students fully engaged and interested. Literacy time is full of smiles and anticipation. The students love it when I show them the illustrated version as well. We have created artwork of our favorite scenes from the book, as well as had marvelous and magical discussions about the story elements of plot, setting, and characters.
Thank you for bringing magical reading into our classroom! Our students are eager to read every single day, and that is all thanks to you! Thank you for being a hero in education and providing these books for us!”

Funded Aug 2, 2021What a wonderful science classroom we've been able to create because of your support! Thank you for providing our class with these wonderful books, experiments and tools! Our students have loved the resources that you have purchased for us. Here are some examples of the explorations our students have done with the supplies:
Microscope slides: our students have examined all kinds of things under the microscope using the biology slides- from butterfly wings, to leaves, to stems and fur samples! We have even tested our class fish tank for phytoplankton!
Project kits: from the solar system, to salt water powered robots and potato clocks, our class has dived deep into experiments involving renewable energy and learned more about temperature changes in ecosystems!
Science Visual Guides and books: Students have had a quick reference guide to learn about all things science! It has been a great way to incorporate science as a key part of our literacy time.
Experiment books: These are so much fun for our students to learn from! We have had wonderful short experiments to do from these books that require a short amount of prep and time, but provide a lot of learning!
There has been such tremendous science learning in my class because of the materials you supplied with your donations! Thank you for supporting my classroom and my amazing students! Thank you for being a champion of education!”

4th Grade Scientists with Microscopes and Lab Coats!
Funded May 28, 2021It is a remarkable sight to see my students get ready for their science lab time! Students eagerly put on their lab coats with a special "Science Rocks" button pinned to them. They gather their microscope kit, grab their slides, and get ready to dive deep into exploring our science topic for the day. Students are experts at getting ready for science. They expertly put on their safety glasses, they prepare their petri dish with pond samples from our fish tank, or have a chance to look at onion epidermis, honeybee wing, ginger root, celery leaf, and sheep fur. We have studied leaves and plant stems, as well as the prepared slides, to help us learn.
Students have carefully collected data based on their observations, and shared their work with their group mates! With markers at hand, they drew the specimens they have seen under the microscope. Students love science time so much that they ask for extra time to study!
So many wonderful explorations in science have already happened in our class, and the microscopes have been such a tremendous support in our lessons. Science is fun and lively for students now that we have the equipment! We are using our microscopes and lab coats at least twice a week!
Your tremendous donation has made such an important difference in my classroom. My students have real, hands-on science lessons that enliven their understanding of concepts and get my students excited about learning. Thank you for making this amazing learning a reality!”

4th Grade Supply Kits for Distance Learning Success!
Funded Sep 28, 2020I am so grateful for your support of my at-home learning project! Our school remains in online learning as the COVID cases soar in our area, and the resources you have given my students have helped! Students use their supplies daily! The enjoy using their cards to practice their math facts with their classmates in breakout groups, writing down notes in their notebooks, copying their vocabulary in their steno notebooks, and reading a wonderful chapter book. Students have the necessary supplies at hand to be successful with their math lessons!
We did a "drive by" for parents and students to pick up their bags filled to the brim (as you can see from the phots) of all the wonderful supplies you purchased for them-and the students were delighted with their masks! They love having cool looking face masks to wear! At our special supply pick up, the parents expressed their deep gratitude to you, donors, for your donation to their child's learning. Thank you, donors! You have made online learning a success!”

Funded Nov 24, 2019My students have loved their classroom pets! It has been such a help for all students and their well-being! Students love to take a break when they are feeling strong emotions, pick up a book and a pet, and enjoy their time to re-center. I recently had a student who lost their own pet (death) and found comfort that they could have the robot puppy by their side when it became difficult. These realistic pets have made an impact on our whole school! Teachers have asked to borrow the pets if they have a student in their own classroom who is in need of classroom companion to help them.
This project has had an immense impact on the level of happiness in our classroom. Student behavior has improved because of the pets. Thank you for providing this wonderful resource to my students experiencing trauma, anxiety and stress! All my students have played with, taken care of, enjoy, and spend time with these classroom pets. Thank you for supporting this unique project!”
