  • Book Breaks! Empowering Books for 4th Graders!

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Thank you for giving us these amazing books! My class (and my school) love them! Our project of a fun, empowering book reading time has expanded to benefitting our entire school!

My class loves the book break time (Mikey and the Dragon is a favorite) and students enjoy reading books about emotions, and learning about feelings through these books. When students shared how much they loved our collection of books you purchased for us, we soon had the school counselor, other teachers and other students from other classes come into the class to borrow them! Our whole school has enjoyed them! These books are a hit with our students!

I am profoundly grateful for the tremendous generosity of your donation to my class. It has made a difference with kids feeling represented, empowered in their feelings, and compassionate to one another. Thank you for supporting inner city kids!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Winslow

  • Bones and Brains: 4th Grade Scientists Learn About Anatomy!

    Funded Jan 5, 2023

As soon as our packages arrived, my students could not wait to learn about their brains and bones! These resources were an immediate hit. Students were amazed to learn about their heart, brain, skeletal system, eye, muscle structure and more! How fun it is in my class to get these tools out for a hands-on lesson!

With our class science textbooks, students studied the models while filling out worksheets, and enjoyed passing the models around. My students loved filling the bulb for the heart-pumping model with red dye and watching how blood flows through the heart! Students asked lots of questions and a couple of students said they would like to be a doctor simply because learning about the human body was so cool to them!

Thank you for bringing real, authentic, life-like models into our classroom so that students can explore the very organs that make them live each and every day! Thank you for supporting science education for inner city students! You are truly champions of education and I am so grateful that you chose my class to support. Science learning is wonderful because of these tools, and students can't wait to learn more! Thank you, donors, you are incredible and I am so appreciative of your support!”

  • 4th Graders Want Writing Tablets for Math and Science Notes!

    Funded Aug 10, 2022

The writing tablets have been a game changer in our classroom. Every student in my class loves using them for notes and particularly, for science diagrams. It has been fun to hear "can we take notes on our tablets?" each time I present a lesson! Not only are we saving paper, but students are enjoying the many ways that they can use the tablets.

We have used the tablets for language arts and new vocabulary words, to practice math, to draw cell structures, and just for fun when students want to draw.

Thank you for funding this opportunity for us! These tablets are engaging and fun for students to use, and easy for me to grade since they have a locking feature. Students treat them with care and look forward to using them every day.

Thank you for your generous donations and making this project a reality! It is wonderful to see my students excited about learning and taking notes!”

  • Get Your Lab Coats! Time for 4th Grade Science!

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Recently, on a trip to the planetarium, multiple patrons and staff members came excitedly up to me to tell me that they had never seen a cooler group of students. Why? because our class was clad in our amazing science lab coats! Students in my class walk into the classroom and put on their lab coats at the beginning of each and every school day! Instantly, the atmosphere changes and the students get ready for discovery and learning and they are dressed for the part. Every student has a lab coat that fits them perfectly. They are serious about science with their lab coats on.

Our STEAM rug is the pride of our classroom and students love to lay on it while reading, sit together and work on projects, or have a class meeting. Students even have favorite sections of the rug to sit on! When we recently "excavated" some fossils from a science fossil kit, our trusty safety goggles kept our eyes safe, and our lab coats caught the dirt. We laughed and had fun while we were paleontologists.

Truly, donors, your heart is big and full of generosity to give my students such wonderful gifts that we get to enjoy every school day.

I am so grateful for your support of inner city students! Thank you for making this project a reality!”

  • 4th Grade Scientists In Action!

    Funded May 19, 2022

How remarkable you are! Your generous donation has turned this classroom into a magnificent science immersion class! Our class has dug deep into our fossil kits, learned about the globe, and used our marble run to discover energy, force, and motion. We have learned about clean water and are learning coding and programming to program our robot.

Words cannot adequately express my gratitude for this gift. Your donation has brought resources into my classroom that will benefit students this year, next year and beyond. These reusable resources have been a crucial way for students to engage with science in a way that will help them use their knowledge in their upper grade years. We are having wonderful experiences with the kits and resources! Students are learning science concepts with hands-on experiences and tools. I am so grateful for your generosity! • 4th Graders Get to Work on Science Workbooks!

    Funded May 16, 2022

We are truly immersed in science work thanks to you and our science workbooks! Students love them! They love how they read from their textbook and instantly apply what they are learning. The fact that the workbooks are in vibrant color is such a bonus, bringing diagrams, models and graphs to vivid brilliancy!

These workbooks are so helpful in getting students to work together in group work. As we learn our science lesson in whole group, it has been amazing to watch students take notes and write in their own science workbook. Each student takes pride in their workbook, and takes exceptional care of it.

Thank you, donors, for making this project a reality. It makes an important difference in my science teaching and I couldn't have made this happen without you! Thank you for your generous and continued support of inner city students and science education! You are truly heroes of education!”

  • Eat Your Vegetables! Indoor Urban Gardening for 4th Graders!

    Funded Feb 17, 2022

What a wonderful project this has been! We have truly "grown" this school year with urban gardening! Students have brought their science learning to life with the plants that we have planted this year.

When we received the supplies and put them together, students in my class began learning about plant biology. With the books we received (both fictional and science based) students learned how a garden space can affect their class community. Students eagerly checked their plant each day.

This last week, students had an opportunity to take their plant home with them. The plant they took home grew from the seeds that each student had selected and placed in our seed sprouter. They watered the soil, watched as their seed burst into a small stem, then a seedling, then a plant. There was a tremendous amount of pride reflected in each student's eyes at seeing something as small as a seed become a plant.

Thank you for making this science project a reality for my students! Your donations made this experience possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Winslow

  • We Love Books! Black History and Fiction Books for Class!

    Funded Feb 9, 2022

Thank you for helping us create a Black History Month shelf for our class library! Our students in our class have loved learning about famous and influential leaders like John Lewis, Martin Luther King Jr, Katherine Johnson, and others who have made a profound difference in history. Students had the chance to help by clearing out a shelf dedicated to the books, and to stack the new books on it. Students immediately began to borrow the books and read them as soon as we got them! The books have not only been used by our class, as other teachers have enjoyed borrowing these excellent books to share with their classes!

Our Black History month shelf has expanded, with more and more books being added by students, teachers, and parents! The impact has been tremendous and I am so grateful for your donations in bringing our Black History book shelf to life!

Thank you for helping us get more Harry Potter books for our class to read and enjoy!
