  • Tech the Halls With an HP Laptop! Fa La La!

    Funded Dec 27, 2023

Thank you so much again for your wonderful contribution to our first grade classroom! The laptop was very much needed in order to further engage my students in meaningful instruction. In eduction today technology plays a large role in delivery of lessons, how students interact with lessons, and of course how students test. Gone are the days of Scantrons and bubble sheets.

The laptop has opened up a totally new way that we like to review concepts and learn in our classroom. Students have started to enjoy a fun interactive game called Blooket (blue-kit, is how you would pronounce the word). From the laptop I can put the game on the SmartBoard to allow myself touch capabilities to lead the students in a game. From each of their ChromeBooks they log into my game and choose their character. From there it is a battle against them to see who can get the most questions right and collect the most of whatever they are playing for, or who can race to the end first. They absolutely love this game and look forward to playing it everyday. I can say that it has increased their knowledge of the concepts we are trying to master.

From the bottom of our hearts we thank you again for helping make learning fun and meaningful in our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Valentine

  • "Journeys" Through Technology

    Funded Aug 13, 2015

Thank you all so much for your wonderful contribution to our classroom. Today's world has changed from the world that you and I have grown up in. Technology is becoming the forefront in children's education today. Even our educational standards include the use of technology in the classroom to supplement our students learning. With the use of technology students are more engaged and excited to learn. Just mentioning the fact that they get to use tablets their eyes light up and the excitement is seen on their faces. Just when I announce the group that gets to use the tablets for the day you hear "Yes!" in that quiet whisper or some sort of excited hand gesture. Not all of my students have access to technology at home, so with this contribution you have brought them that much needed exposure.

My students get to use the tablets everyday when they go into their centers. They have learned how to log on to a program called Think Central. In this program the students get more exposure to reading and the spelling skills that we are learning together as a class. They get to play a "game" working with letter sounds, they get to listen to a fun grammar song to learn about sentences or certain words, and listen to someone read them a story to gain more exposure to words and learn to follow the words as they are highlighted. It is the simple fact that they get to use something that no one else in the school has that gets them the most excited, not to mention how excited my parents are as well.

I have seen that my students who have the most difficult time with reading and are more reluctant to do their reading work have grown to love using the tablets. They do not shy away from doing the work, rather they embrace it and are more eager then my other students to get to work. As soon as they headphones go on, they are submerged in their own world of reading. Some of my students have even become experts with how to use them and are the ones who go over to help another student troubleshoot the problem they are having. It is like they don't need my help anymore, that's how well they embrace new technology.

In closing, I have seen progress with all of my students in their reading abilities. They have progressed in reading levels or have progressed in identifying new words. This progress is in part because of your kind donations. Thank you all so much again for the addition of tablets in my classroom, I could not have done it without you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Valentine

Welcome to my page! I am in my third year of teaching first grade at my wonderful school. One of the most amazing things about first grade is seeing my students grow as readers. They come in at the beginning of the year reading limited words and simple sentences to reading multiple books with ease. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider my project. Your donations mean the world to my first graders and I. Thank you again for giving us the opportunity to truly sparkle!
