I work with K-5 grade students in small group intervention. My reading and math students are lagging behind their peers in reading and math, but they are trying hard and making progress every day. It takes creativity and deep awareness of these kids as learners to unlock their learning styles and scaffold them as they build towards their limitless potential. Our school is in inner city Baltimore, one of the communities hardest hit by poverty and racial inequality. The students have a lot of complex needs, sometimes dealing with learning needs, loss of caregivers, homelessness, and trauma. In spite of all that, I have never worked in a community so single-minded in their support of children, advocating for their needs and finding solutions whenever we can. Your support will mean the world.
