My high school students will read the book Unbroken in a small reading group to learn about the real life hero, Louis Zamperini. Students will discuss what it means to persevere in the small group. In their English classes they will be able to tie in real life examples with the novel to create essays. My students will learn about perseverance through the book Unbroken as they learn to persevere toward their own high school goals. Many of my students have dropped out of high school before and have come back to earn their diploma. They will need to persevere to reach their goals, what better way to learn about perseverance than through the story of a man who persevered so much.
