  • Books for Comfort

    Funded Oct 8, 2023

When I initially set up the project, my goal was simple: to create a comfortable space where students could wind down and enjoy reading. Reading is so important for a child's development, and I knew that providing these books could foster a deeper appreciation for literature and improve literacy skills. What made this project even more special was the way it brought the students together in a shared experience. As we read together, I noticed how they began to discuss the stories they enjoyed and share their thoughts on the characters and plot. These discussions were valuable because they helped develop their critical thinking and comprehension skills while creating a sense of community in the classroom.

The books I selected were chosen with the goal of being comforting and inspiring. I made sure they were age-appropriate, engaging, and reflective of the diverse backgrounds and interests of my students. With the new books, students who had never shown interest in reading before suddenly became excited to explore stories on their own. I noticed a significant increase in independent reading time, and I saw their confidence grow as they read books they were passionate about. For many of these children, reading became more than just a school task – it was a way to escape and find comfort.

The impact on the students' reading habits was profound. By offering them access to high-quality books that they could keep and enjoy at their own pace, I was able to spark a lifelong love of reading. The excitement on their faces when they got to pick a book from the new collection was priceless. I saw students who normally struggled with reading suddenly engage with the material in a way that was previously unheard of. They weren't just reading for the sake of it – they were exploring new worlds, learning new things, and developing a deeper connection with their education.”

  • Making Room for Books

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

The arrival of the new books in our classroom was met with boundless excitement from my students. As they eagerly flipped through the pages, their eyes lit up with curiosity and wonder. Each book offered a new adventure, a fresh world to explore, and the enthusiasm was palpable in the air. However, a slight mishap in my ordering process resulted in an abundance of one particular title. Rather than viewing this as a setback, my ingenious students turned it into an opportunity to cultivate their own book clubs. They formed tight-knit groups, each centered around a different book, fostering discussions, debates, and a deepened love for literature. It was remarkable to witness their initiative and camaraderie as they delved into the stories together.

What truly impressed me was how the enthusiasm for reading transcended grade levels. Not content with confining their discussions to their own classmates, my students eagerly shared their newfound literary treasures with students from other grades. They eagerly recommended books, swapped favorites, and even organized joint reading sessions where younger and older students came together to explore the magic of storytelling. Witnessing the bonds forged over shared tales and the infectious joy of discovering a captivating narrative was a testament to the power of literature to unite and inspire across age boundaries.”

  • Make It Pop!

    Funded Feb 9, 2023

Technology plays a pivotal role in enhancing the learning experience for my students, particularly in cultivating hands-on skills and digital literacy. Through the use of technology, such as Google Image Search, students are empowered to explore and discover information independently, fostering a sense of autonomy and curiosity. Additionally, learning how to print materials on their own not only promotes self-sufficiency but also instills a sense of pride and ownership in their work. This hands-on approach to technology integration not only equips students with essential digital skills but also fosters a deeper understanding of how technology can be utilized as a tool for learning and self-expression.

The most exciting aspect of this new technology for my students is the newfound freedom it offers. Being able to independently print materials gives them a sense of control over their learning process, allowing them to personalize their educational journey. This freedom empowers students to explore their interests and pursue projects that resonate with them, fostering a sense of agency and motivation in their academic endeavors.

Among my students, those who are economically disadvantaged have particularly embraced this new technology. Previously, they may have felt left out or limited in their participation in projects due to lack of access to resources. However, with the ability to print materials in color and engage in hands-on learning activities, these students now have equal opportunities to participate and excel. Additionally, visual learners have also thrived with this technology, as they find it easier to comprehend and retain information presented in color and visual formats. By catering to diverse learning styles and providing equitable access to technology, this initiative has empowered all students to thrive and succeed in their academic pursuits.”

  • More Books

    Funded Oct 12, 2023

Every Friday , the students line up to read to the lower grade levels. The students first enjoy me reading the books. The students then read the books on their own. Once the students have gained the confidence of reading the book, they read to the younger kids.

Reading is fun in the classroom because the students enjoying expressing the characters they read about. I believe my below level students are enjoying reading the books because they are able to read the same book over to different students.”

25 STUDENTS AND 3 CLASS COMPUTERS! YIKES!!! I want to change the way my students feel about the subject that I'm very passionate about. I tell my students to read books in my classroom library and they would react as if they were told to eat all of their vegetables! Yes , I will admit that I do not have the best classroom library but I do have interesting books. I have books of all categories , but I'm starting to realize that my library is not the problem. The problem is that students are not wanting to read books anymore. These kids are interested in video games and technology. I want to meet my students on their level and show them that I'm willing to do whatever it takes to show them that Reading is a special superpower to have. There are many problems that's stopping me from proving this FACT to them. 1.Not all of my students are reading on grade level , some of my students are reading on a Kindergarten level. I cannot afford to buy books across all reading levels. 2. I do not have much room to store the books in my small classroom. It was that moment thought about it. I should have digital classroom library! Students will have access to all digital books and games to help improve their Reading and Fluency. The only problem is that there is not enough technology for my students. We have only 4 computers in the classroom and 25 students in each class. Please help bring this digital library to life! The students can use these tablets to read books , recipes , news articles , magazines , and even e-mails! This would work perfect in stations also.
