My students have a variety of disabilities both learning, and medical, this project is meant to equip my students with sensory tools that will help them to be successful in the classroom. Tools such as a classroom swing, body sock and adaptive seating, task boxes items for put in activities, and weighted vests will help my classroom to regulate their emotions, behavior and fulfill their sensory needs. All of my Special Education students are receiving occupational therapy, speech therapy, and physical therapy. My students benefit from these services but are limited with time when they are seen each week. My students also have sensory processing delays and a difficult time engaging in activities. Research has shown that a stimulation through swings, wiggle seats, and other adaptive educational tools can help a student become more focused to perform activities. I would love to have a therapeutic swing in the classroom that would allow for self regulation during times of crisis, as well as stimulating those to become engaged, alternative seating, that will help each student with their individual need, and Supplies to create tasks boxes to address each students learning goals through out the year.
Having a variety of sensory tools will allow them to develop self-efficacy and help them to make good choices that promotes independent, responsible thinking and autonomy.
I also have several students with Autism that really need help when they get overwhelmed. These students would benefit from having a weighted vest as they get frustrated easily and the vests help keep them feeling "tight" and remove some of their stress.
