  • Mrs. Sepp’s SEL Stars: Resources for Social Emotional Learning

    Funded Sep 18, 2024

I am overwhelmed by generosity in support of my special education classroom. Through this project I request books for read alouds during social skills lessons. Books play a crucial role in developing social-emotional learning (SEL) and social skills for students with disabilities. They model appropriate social behaviors and emotional responses through relatable characters and narratives. By exposing students to diverse perspectives, books foster empathy and understanding. They also enhance vocabulary related to emotions and interactions, improving communication skills. Additionally, books can serve as discussion prompts, allowing students to explore feelings and conflict resolution. Characters with disabilities provide representation, promoting self-acceptance and resilience. Overall, these books offer structured opportunities for practice and growth in social skills within a supportive environment.

Thank you again for your commitment to learning and supporting students and educators💜”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sepp

  • Bee Flexible (2)

    Funded Jun 29, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my students. These new flexible seating options have greatly improved focus and engagement in my students' independent work. These seats also gave students with the opportunity to be responsible and accountable. If the seats were not used properly, they lost the privilege to use them. If they were not safe and damaged the seats, they understood the rest of the class would not be able to use them.

I get to work with some very extraordinary kids and they were overjoyed to receive and try something new. Although I cannot include pictures of my students utilizing these materials, please know they are used frequently and appreciated by all in our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sepp

For the 2021-2022 school year, I am moving from a full-size classroom to a smaller resource room. I am looking forward to the new environment. However, this room will not house the number of students, furniture, or layout we are used to. Flexible seating offers a unique classroom setup and allows students to take responsibility for their learning by making the best choices for them. At my school, we teach students to BEE safe, respectful, and responsible. Students show these values during independent work time by choosing a seating option they can use to focus and not disrupt others. One of the most engaging components of a classroom is making sure students are comfortable. I see great differences in my students when they are given a choice. This will teach them how to BEE responsible when learning. I wish you could see just how incredible my students are. These new seating options will allow us to start a new year on a bright (and comfortable) foot! Supplemental resources from Teachers Pay Teachers will also allow me to provide lessons and visuals for using these seats appropriately. Please help me in giving back to these special little learners. With much love, Miss Orban
