  • Code.org Hardware

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Thank you!!!!! The chromebooks have been a HUGE resource for our students. So much of our technology is 6 years old +. Both the students and the teachers are happy with their reliability and speed.

So far, we have used the chromebooks to learn how to code in Python in technology. The students have also used them to collaborate on end of year projects using Google Apps for Education. They have researched on the Zika virus in science classes.

The thing I hear most is, "DO we get to use the Chromebooks?"

The kids are so excited to have technology that works, and I am excited as well as the staff! Thank you!!!!!!!”

    With gratitude,

  • Ardu-In Or Ardu-Out?

    Funded Aug 23, 2014

Thank you again for your generosity!

My students are excited to get to use the materials! "What are these? What do they do?" These are a few of the questions that I am eager to answer as we do use them in the class.

The girls are excited to use the Lilypad materials to make more "crafty" projects, as it were. I am probably more excited than the children are at the prospect of them getting to be able to learn circuitry and so forth.

I do plan on trying to use it with s4a.cat so that programming the arduinos will be in a more familiar and understandable platform for them.

As a teacher, I am always looking for new things to teach the students (and learn myself!) Without the generosity of people like you, this wouldn't be possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Muller

  • Replicator Plate Tectonics

    Funded Jun 6, 2014

Thank you so much for your generosity! When we received the plate, the kids were so excited! After having melted the extruder into the previous plastic plate, we couldn't do much, so this is a great help to us!

We haven't been able to use it yet as our curriculum plans for use of the printer in the Spring. However, my Lego robotics team is excited to have the printer as an option for some of their ideas for this year's competition.

As a teacher, especially a technology teacher, nothing is more frustrating than when we can't use the technology!

We wish you a Happy Thanksgiving with you and yours!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Muller

  • Turn Learners Into Creators!

    Funded Nov 18, 2013

My students were THRILLED to have a 3D printer to experiment with. They asked all sorts of questions; from how does it work to what can you make? They asked where it came from and I explained that I got it from Donors Choose and for those kids who don't know about Donors Choose, what that means. They are very grateful for the gift!

So far, we haven't been able to make a lot of things because of curriculum restraints and state testing (as well as a robotics tournament), but they are impatient to really get going! So far, we have made a couple of keychains and a failed attempt at cufflinks for a parent.

The printer allows me to use their failures to help them to learn better. The cufflinks showed the limitations of what the printer can do if forethought is not put in on how it prints things out. (i.e. it needs a platform to build off of). Additionally, they are learning how to 3D model quite on their own and are able to help each other.

I am excited to roll this out to the general classes!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Muller

  • "Tackle" Organization!

    Funded Sep 5, 2013

My students are so happy to have the materials! The new robots really have the students invested in trying building out and experimenting with robot designs, and the tackle boxes keep those parts organized.

The folders are used daily in class and in club and help to keep the work organized and from going missing! It's been beneficial to see the kids improve their organizational as well as creative skills with all the materials that we received through your generous donations.

I no longer have to keep after them to put materials away because they know exactly where to put them. The folders have allowed the kids to have a portfolio in the new age of Common Core to help me evaluate their work, as well as for them to self-evaluate as well.

Thank you again for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Muller

  • Organize My Lego Robotics Team! (And Robotics Classes!)

    Funded Jan 22, 2013

As you can see from the photos, we are organized! The bins have helped tremendously in expediting the students' robot constructions as they immediately know where to find things. This results in less time lost in looking and time gained in creating and problem solving!

The students know to reorganize after use and can do so easily now without my intervention. Children in my regular classes also are much more organized and I have more time to teach.

Thank you so much again for your generous donations! It has truly given my students the opportunity to excel (they won an award at competition!) and will make next year's season that much better.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Muller
