My students are incoming first graders at a Title 1 school. All of my students receive free/reduced lunch. All of my students are English Language Learners. Their families have come from China in hopes to give their children a better life in the United States. My students struggle to learn English, however, their passion to overcome this struggle is incredible. They would take every opportunity to listen to English books, whether from books with CDs or when I read aloud to them. They especially love it when I read aloud to them because they love to stop me and ask questions in order to clarify their own understanding or make a connection to the book. When I read aloud to them, the students have the opportunity to interact with the book.
