Little Americans
Funded Mar 27, 2018My students have autism and other special needs. Using the laptop, the students who are non verbal can communicate with the verbal on a level playing field. The students use it to research, find answers to questions, and see videos of things they would not get to see in real life, such as Mount Rushmore, Yosemite, the Alamo.
They especially love the light up globe. They look up information on the laptop, find the continent on the globe, and see animals that live in that continent. The light up display is helpful to those with attention problems. There is one girl who has especially done well with the laptop. She is deaf and autistic, and only 7 years old. She started writing words and using it to communicate. Now she has her very own, and communicates with her family, friends, teachers, and peers. What a difference that you have made. Thank you!!!”

Funded Dec 16, 2015I am writing to you to say Thank YOU again and to let you know how the iPad is being used in our classroom. There are not enough words to express our gratitude, or the impact that the iPad is having with our students.
Everyday, the students choose what they would like to get at "Reward Time" at the end of the day. Rewards are toys from the treasure chest, stickers, time on the rocking chair, a snack, a game to play, art materials, OR iPad.
As a class, we explored different apps and games, and the students chose their favorites. Everyone has at least 1 that they love, but some kids have several favorites. Because there is only one iPad, they have t take turns, so 2 students get to choose it each day. We have 6 students now, so each student can play on the iPad 3 times a week.
We also use the iPad during the day. At Reading time, students use the iPad to read books that we downloaded. At Language Arts, students have been using the iPad to research famous people as part of our Biography Unit. The iPad allows them to fit the iPad to research and their notebook to take notes, all on top of their desk. At math time, they log in to a math website that allows them to practice math skills that I already taught. By using the iPad during these academic times on a consistent basis, student learning is enhanced greatly. Since we have been using the iPad during these academic classes, students are more engaged and behavioral problems decreased. They have
I use the iPad to test my students and to keep track of their progress. I also use it during group instruction to show pictures and information that keeps my students focused and interested.
I hope that this gives you an understanding of how your kindness and generosity is making a difference everyday in the lives of our students. Gabriella, Michael, Logan, AJ, Matthew, Joey, Michelle, Scott, Sheri, and I thank you and it is our wish that you are as happy as you have made all of us.”
