  • Giving Reading a Helping Hand with Headphones!

    Funded Mar 4, 2014

We received the headphones late on a Friday afternoon and began using them immediately Monday morning. Our students were super excited to see these new headphones and even more excited to use them on the first day. The colorful headphones add a spark to our students reading engagement and enjoyment. We have several audiobooks loaded to the computers and many of our students have selected the books they would like to "read".

While we haven't finished a book yet we're surely looking forward to finishing a book and starting new and exciting listening adventures. These headphones have made reading for enjoyment a lot easier. It has also taken away a great deal of stress our students feel when trying to finish a book on their own.

These resources will serve our students well this school year and the school years to come. They will allow us to plan for more engaging activities with our school library community. We will also make the resources from this project available to our after-school library students, they can continue to read for enjoyment, watch educational movies, or listen to music while doing their homework. This project is really opening up doors for our library community that we couldn't have accessed on our own.

Our library community sincerely thanks all of the donors for helping to get this project funded. Your kindness and gratitude is truly appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gray

  • Update our Library !

    Funded Jan 29, 2013

Our entire library community was excited to see the upgrade to our circulation system. We are ever so grateful that there are still people out there that care about education, schools, libraries, and most importantly our students.

Our library is steadily becoming one of the central hubs of learning and enrichment on our school campus. The items bought through this project have helped move us farther into the 21st century, and allowed our patrons the opportunity to become more responsible for the resources they borrow.

We are grateful for the receipt printer and other items as they will be used throughout this school year and in the following years to come. This project has helped our library's present performance and will support its efficacy in the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gray

  • Crafts to Inspire & Ignite Our Imagination !

    Funded Dec 31, 2012

We would like to thank the donors that helped make our creativity come to light in awesome and imaginative ways. Over the past months our library community has had a blast creating and reinventing our space. The students now have a sense of ownership and pride when they look back at projects they help out on.

We used the tissue paper to create flowers and decorate cards. The paint helped transform our seating area into a comfy place to sit, read & relax. All of the crafts are still being used and will definitely be put to great use in the coming school year. It's awe-inspiring to see the change in students who might have had a bad day or are stressed about school come to the library and begin to create. The troubles don't disappear but they dissipate long enough for a smile or small burst of excitement to become visible.

Our space and our hearts have been changed by your gracious donations. We are truly honored to have this project funded and look forward to creating and building both literally and figuratively.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gray

  • Lyrical Library

    Funded Mar 21, 2012

What a difference music makes! Our students now come into the library and are met with the melodious sound of classical music. They look around trying to figure out where the music is coming from. It's amazing to see how calm and relaxed they become when they enter the library. The sound of the flute, piano, violin and other classical instruments soothes and guides our students to focus on the tasks they have at hand. It is really sight to see.

While we thought we would use the speakers only to help guide our students and help them with transitioning into the library space we have found new and exciting ways to use this resource. During our afterschool program several students sit around the speakers and listen to audiobooks. During the school day we play audiobooks, movies, and plays using the speakers as well. The students love these speakers and we can do so much more with them especially because of the wireless feature. We never thought the speakers would be so easy to use and have so many different uses.

We are all very excited about this new addition and look forward to the new adventures waiting to be had with these wireless speakers. Thanks again for making our library lyrical and so much more accessible for our students and learning community. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gray

  • Bluford & Beyond

    Funded Jun 3, 2011

Thanks for donating to our project. Our reading community is constantly growing because of donors like you. Our students are eager and excited to read these new and interesting books

Our staff is also very appreciative of the donations. Sometimes it is rather difficult matching a student with the right book but because of this donation it has gotten a little easier.

These new books help make our students believe that there are good people out there that do good things and who also care about them and their education. Thanks so much for caring and giving. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gray

  • Panasonic headphones + Audiobooks = Finally finishing a book

    Funded Sep 19, 2011

Thanks for donating to our project. Our reading community is growing in leaps and bounds because of your donation to our project. Our students were super excited to see the myriad of titles they could listen to in the library.

We now have an audiobook club that meets in the back of the library every week! It's amazing to see the story unfold in the expressions in their faces as they listen to their books. Some of our students read along with the text as they listen others sit in the couch and let the readers take them to far away places of fantasy and fiction.

These audiobooks have created more ways for our students to interact with and continue to cultivate their joy of reading. Thanks so much for your donation. You are responsible for developing and nurturing the future of our children.”

    Ms. Gray

  • Getting Hooked on the Nook! Part II

    Funded May 10, 2011

Funding for this project has benefited all of our readers greatly. Our students can borrow a Nook and after that the sky is the limit for them. They are in the library sharing reading experiences with classmates, reviewing test prep materials, or relaxing by the window reading poetry. It's really exciting to watch our reading community grow in leaps and bounds with the use of the materials in this project.

As our Nook Book collection grows so does the excitement of our readers. Students are constantly on our e-readers. Their excitement for reading is infectious and once someone has found a good book to read they are sure to let others know about it.

Your donation has helped our students move closer to having a 21st century media center. Our students come from challenging socio-economic backgrounds. While some of them have heard mention of e-readers they have never been able to use them. It brings our staff great joy to know that even though they face challenges in and out of our four walls we can bring them a little closer to technology that can really change their reading habits for good.

Once again, thank you for this wonderful gift of reading. We are truly appreciative and honored to receive your donation.

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gray

  • Getting Hooked on the Nook!

    Funded Mar 7, 2011

Thanks for your donation it has helped our students get one step closer to having a 21st century media center. My students come from very challenging socio-economic backgrounds, some have heard of the Nook but many rarely have hands-on access to an e-reader.

The Nooks have enabled our students to read what they want when they want. Students come to the library with varied reading levels, these e-readers are a one size fits all device. We have books that range from elementary levels to the college level. The best part about the nooks for those reading on a lower level, is no one knows what they are reading, because all they can see is the nook and not the "cover" of the book.

Our students are always excited , and a bit amazed, that they have something that is so expensive and hi-tech in their possession. These Nooks have made such a difference, not only in the reading habits of our students, but in their faith and trust in charitable giving.

Thanks so much for your donation. It will be used, treasured and enjoyed by all. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gray

We are a campus library that serves three unique schools in New York. Our school library serves Title I schools with over 80% of the student population qualifying for free and reduced lunch. Our students are inquisitive and eager 6th-12th graders that come from a community that has severe socio-economic challenges. While we live in a digital age our students do not have access to digital media and technology. As digital natives, our students must be taught to integrate technology with literature. Unfortunately, our lack of digital media makes it virtually impossible for our students to begin fusing their love of technology with literature.
