All students will be invited into the Media Center before school to engage in a variety of high tech and low tech activities. Some of the high tech activities include Sphero and Makey Makey. Sphero is a spherical robot toy designed by Sphero (the company). It is a waterproof orb wrapped in polycarbonate plastic, capable of rolling around, changing colors, running programs, and being controlled by a smartphone or tablet. Makey Makey is an invention kit for the 21st century. This cool tool turns everyday objects into touchpads and combine them with the internet. It's a simple Invention Kit for Beginners and Experts doing art, engineering, and everything in between. The low tech options will include Origami and Strawbees. Origami is paper folding art and Strawbees is an award-winning, light-weight, construction system. It is a kit based on simple units called Strawbees,that lets you connect straws to each other and build little to huge mechanical objects from just straws and cardboard. These highly engaging activities will get them excited and engaged for a day of learning. Having choice is motivating and therefore students will be in charge of their learning! Students will learn coding, programming, building, robotics, and electronics. These activities have the possibility to spark future careers! These opportunities will also encourage students to get to school on time in the morning, ready for a day of learning!
