Funded May 29, 2022Thank you SO MUCH for your donations that allowed our classroom to enjoy all of the new Arts and Crafts supplies. When the big boxes came in to the office, I was so excited! I couldn't wait to bring them back to the classroom. I put the boxes on my desk before my students came in for the morning. When they arrived into the classroom, the questions immediately started: "What are those?!", "Miss Emily, are those for us?", "What did you buy us?". I opened the boxes in front of the students and they showed such expressions of happiness and wanting to use the materials right away! The students helped me to organize everything in our Arts and Crafts cabinet. Then, we made a plan about what materials we would like to use first and some ideas about what Art projects we could potentially do!
We started using our textured materials for our first project which was to show what your favorite color is using different materials! It was so wonderful to see the students picking out what color is their favorite but with different materials other than crayons, markers, and paints. They glued buttons, pompoms, stickers, etc. onto pieces of paper that matched their favorite color. The students also really loved using the paints to make their own Autumn trees for our Science unit about the seasons!
Again, thank you all ! You have no idea how much this all means to myself, my paras, and my students. Thanks for your support!”

Social Emotional Learning for All!
Funded Jan 10, 2022First of all, I cannot thank you enough for donating to our classroom project. I am so appreciative and thankful and my students are too! When I brought the big boxes into the classroom, I made sure that the students were there too. They couldn't believe it when I told them that what was in the boxes was for them!
The biggest hit was the farm and 5 senses boxes! The students have been learning about different animals and what different animals provide to humans (cows:milk/meat, etc.). The farm box was very helpful in seeing life like examples of different farm animals, and what foods farm animals provide. We also had been learning about our 5 senses and what different parts of our body are associated with each sense. The students LOVED learning about our sense of taste because the box provided 5 different tastes to explore! It also provided a really cool CD for hearing, and a mystery box that we could put different objects in and use our sense of touch to figure out what they were!
Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts! Thank you for contributing to our learning.”

Technology for Adaptive Learning!
Funded Mar 27, 2018In our classroom, technology is a necessity. Teaching in a classroom that ranges in its disability level can be very challenging. Not all of my students learn the same and these iPads have given me more freedom when it comes to differentiation.
We installed an application onto the iPads from the very popular News-2-You program. This program is designed for differentiation among students with varying levels of disability in terms of ELA (English language arts). The program offers current event stories for the students to read and also offers worksheets such as reading comprehension, vocabulary work, etc. By gaining the application onto the iPads, my students are now able to plug in their headphones and have the stories read to them! This is so helpful because some of my students learn better following along with a text via audio. Also, it provides them with a way to be more independent. They do not have to rely on listening to the teacher and can easily sit at their desk, listen to the story, and then answer the questions that go along with it all by themselves promoting self-determination.
I have noticed a change in my students when it comes to learning since we have received these iPads. The excitement is greater, the smiles are larger, and the willingness to learn is stronger. Technology has become an integral part of the learning process in most classrooms and I am thankful to say that we can provide that to our students based on the kindness of the donors to my project. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”
