  • Sittin' on Top of the World

    Funded May 11, 2023

I cannot thank you enought for our new classroom carpet. It super soft and huge. All of my students can fit on it with plenty of room. They love sitting and laying on the carpet. We do our math and reading lessons on the carpet. Then during reader's workshop, when students are around the room working, I will see kids laying on the carpet and reading.

When the carpet first came in, it was summer school and I had a new group of students. I do however have 5 students from during the school year in my summer school class and they all got super excited. They were smiling and exclaiming, "The new carpet is here!" They immediately went over and sat on it. The rest of my summer school class is constantly looking at the continents and they love it!

Another cool thing about the carpet is that it has the world map on it. During summer school, we are learning about all 7 continents and it is so much fun to have the kids identify the continents on the carpet. They get so excited to scoot over and point at the continent we are learning about and share facts about it. Thank you again for making this possible for my class.”

    With gratitude,

  • Chapter Books For a 5th Grade Cause

    Funded Nov 15, 2016

Thank you very much for the new books! My students were very excited when they received them. We have already read several of the books during small reading groups. I can see the kids are more engaged and excited about reading now that they have new books. When the books got here, I opened all of the packages and read the book titles and short summaries aloud to the students. I could hear all of them talking with one another about which books they were the most excited about. This has definitely helped to encourage my kids to read and to like reading. Thank you so much for your donation. My class and I really appreciate it. Thank you again!”

  • Fifth Graders Need Headphones for Math and Literacy Computer Programs

    Funded Oct 28, 2016

Thank you very much for the new headphones. Originally I planned to use these headphones for the desktops and laptops in my room. While this project was in the process of being funded, I went from 4 desktops and 13 laptops to 27 laptops for all students. The students were very excited that our district was able to provide laptops for all students. The district then bought headphones for all students. It was very exciting. As you can see I kept my project for the headphones going. I did this because some of the new head phones have already broke.

The headphones funded by this project are going to be excellent because I can use them to replace the broken headphones and to provide to new students who will need headphones as well. The day the headphones came in the students were super excited! They all took turns trying them out and using them on their laptops. They all said great things about them and can't wait to have a chance at using them.

Another great thing the students love about the headphones is that they fold up really small. They loved the color of them and said they could tell they were really good headphones. I can't wait for the kids to get to use them because of their enthusiasm. Thank you so much for the headphones! They are going to be perfect for my students this year and in the future years!”

  • Fifth Graders Need A Large Comfy Rug For Class Meetings!

    Funded Jun 30, 2016

    Dear Donors,

I just wanted to tell you how thankful I am for your generous donation. With the money you have provided us we were able to purchase a large area rug, two gamer chairs, two bean bags, and a soft pillow. All of these items arrived during the day when students were in my class. I wish I could have shown you their expression. I was in the middle of reading aloud a book when a teacher walked in with the carpet. All of the kids started screaming, "Yay! Our carpet is here! Finally! Woohoo!" They were super excited and honestly they are still excited a month later. When I pulled the gamer chairs and bean bags out of the boxes a few days later the kids could barely handle their excitement! They are very thankful. I will be sending pictures of the kids (though the Donor's Choose website) using these items during math and reading.

Our biggest purchase, the carpet, is one of my class' favorites. Everyday we do three rotations of math. The kids sit around the room doing their rotation while the "teacher station" rotation kids come and sit on the carpet. I teach the students a lesson using the SMART Board and they all sit on the carpet and listen. I have noticed that more kids are excited about coming to the teacher station because we have a comfy carpet to sit on. Some of the kids even lay on during lessons!

During reading time, we have rotations as well where kids spread out around the room and work on their reading rotation (computer time, read to self, writing, and word work). So far there has never been a single moment during reading rotations when there was a spot open in the gamer chairs or bean bags. The kids absolutely love them and they work hard to be able to sit in that spot. They know if they are not working, I will move them. Again thank you for funding our project and helping out all 28 of my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dutton

Every day students will come to the rug to meet with each other, build a community within the classroom, and be involved in lessons and learning. There is not a rug in the classroom right now. Without a rug, my students would have to sit on a cold, tile floor. Adding a rug to our classroom would not only make it where students have a warm and comfy place to sit, but it would create an area where students want to be while learning. Because our classroom has flexible seating, a rug would be the perfect addition to our classroom. Students could sit on the rug while reading or working on an assignment. The rug would make our classroom have more of a warm and positive atmosphere and a create an environment where students can be themselves.
