  • Two Screens is Better Than One.

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

I can not thank you enough for providing the tools necessary to be effective at delivering lessons both virtually and in person. This second screen has made everything easier, more organized, and seamless.

One major advantage has been that I can see my students on Zoom, with chat open on one screen while I navigate through our lesson on the other. Before I had to hide my students and the chat to move through our Nearpod lessons. It also makes things more efficient because I do not have to move anything around to go between chat, the lesson and also the student videos.

Beyond the functionality, having a second screen has been a mood lifter. I feel more confident and relaxed teaching. The stress of sorting through piles of windows to get to where I need to go has been lifted. Other tasks such as lesson planning, grading, and even parent calls has become more efficient. Thank you so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. DeLisa

  • Engaging Students With Nearpod

    Funded Aug 17, 2020

Thank you from my students and especially from me for providing the tools I need to be able to integrate financial literacy lessons into our math curriculum.

In one of the videos lessons we learned that many parents do not teach their children about financial literacy and often schools do not either. While my students are only 11-13 years old, they lit up when we began talking about money. They were excited to share what they knew. They were also ready to talk about how spending and saving can impact a persons wealth and life.

My students' excitement was only topped by my own excitement and gratitude that there are such thoughtful people willing to help me and my students. This year as a teacher has been like no other. I work into the night and through the weekends. I am not able to plan new lesson such as these valuable financial literacy lessons for my students during this time. The gift of Nearpod opened up access to pre-made lessons that could be and are added in a moments notice.

For those of you that do not know about Nearpod, it is a teaching tool that delivers exciting instruction with highly interactive features that keep the students engaged. In fact, every student gets to participate and respond in every activity. Nearpod keeps class moving and the kids are never bored.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I think of your generosity often. I am grateful for every one of you.”

    Funded Mar 5, 2020

Thank you for your support to my classroom. It brings joy to my heart to know there are people and companies that support teachers and students. I believe that we all have the ability to make an impact on children's lives. Each little positive action we take, can lead to a major positive impact on someone's future. Thank you!”

  • The Only Way to Learn Math is to do Math.

    Funded Nov 10, 2019

Thank you so much for your generosity. The students were excited, curious, and interested in the wobbly stools and fidget toys. They were even more shocked when they learned that people donated money so that they could have them. I was very impressed with the level of gratitude the students displayed. They were curious about every part of the process.

The students use the stools every day. Some are still learning to stay on them ; ) The stools are super light weight. I am able to walk around with a stool as I move through the class. That means I can have a seat when I help students at their desk. This has been a delightful and unexpected treat for me and my back.

I think the biggest impact your gift has had is during test time. I'm sure your have experienced your share of test anxieties. Many of you have probably read about how parents, teachers, and students feel about testing all of the time. For a brief period of time the students forget their worries and are excited to come up to get a fidget toy. I have anxiety stones, stretchy strings, marbles in a trap, and squishies. Kids rush up to grab one of their choosing. There are smiles and conversations reflecting an appreciation for them. The students look forward to this part of the test and take advantage of their purpose. I love taking a step back to watch the students rock and lean on the stools as they work. I love to see them sit back and stretch their stretchy string or rotate their anxiety stone. I am thankful to be able to provide them for my students.

I was recently reading an article about how students have changed over time. That kids "these days" need instant gratification and get bored too quick and often. That to teach kids is becoming more difficult. The article talked about how to raise your kids, so that they do not experience these shifts and to help them be able to focus better in class. As a teacher I do not have the luxury of waiting for that to happen, nor am I sure that it is possible for parents to prevent the effects of technology. I am thankful that with your generous gifts, I can adjust as a teacher. That I can also adjust my class to address the changing needs of the students. Unfortunately, I can not wait for a day when the kids are more focused students, so thank you for helping me meet them where they are.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. DeLisa

I do my best to create an engaging classroom by integrating collaborative structures and take the pressure off of knowing and place it on learning. It's working, my students are engaged. They make me proud everyday. However, the students are still young and energized. This means that for 90 minutes I remind students to stop making unnecessary noises. The noises come from tapping ... tapping their feet, their fingers, their pencils. Tapping everywhere. I remind them to also stop tipping their chairs. In a recent reflection, my students reported being stressed. Math gives many students anxiety. In addition, many of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes and struggle with the effects of the stress that has on their home life. It's no wonder they can not contain their energy. I also don't want them to have to. While I have some squishy toys I do not have enough, but they work at reducing distracting energy releases. I also add stand up activities, but it's not enough. I want my students to be able to release their energy whenever they need to. It just needs to be a productive release. Kids are happy to trade tapping and tipping for something else, especially something they enjoy. So let's give them the trade and make math more enjoyable and more kid-friendly by adding some ways to release their anxiety, stress, and energy in a positive way. These wobble stools (20 in total) and Squishes will provide safe energy releases that the kids need and that will help everyone focus during the 90 minutes of math class. These stools will last in my class for years to come.
