  • Keep Calm and Show Your Work - Complete the Set

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Thank you so much for your contributions to my classroom. The One by Wacom writing tablets are an amazing tool for our classroom. Not only do they keep students engaged and having fun, but they make it super simple for students to be organized in their practice which helps me evaluate what they learn. My students are so fortunate to be able to engage in math in such a meaningful way. I am fortunate too, as these writing tablets have made it much easier to motivate students and to assess their skills.

This project made it possible to complete a class set, so every student has access to a writing tablet for the class period. That blows my mind. My students are disappointed on the days we keep them tucked away. Thank you for making math class fun.

One added bonus is that the tablets have also inspired many of my students to be productive in exploring ways to be creative and to show their artistic side. I love that they have an opportunity to tap into things that interest them and I get to know them a little more.”

  • Everyone is Welcome Here!

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

Thank you for helping fund one of my favorite projects. Everyone who walks into my classroom comments on how cool our multicultural flags are. Students ask which countries the flags belong to and like to identify with the flags of the countries their families originate from. My students are learning about each others identities and feeling comfortable in their own identities. It has been amazing to see that come alive.

I have also found it very meaningful to write notes to my students with the blank cards. I've been able to tell students "thank you," "keep up the great work," "I see you, I know it's not easy, but you are doing it." I can't wait to send out many more messages of encouragement.

These gifts have touched my heart this year. I want you to know you are a part of that. My students and I appreciate you.”

  • Making the Best of the NJ Mask Mandate

    Funded Aug 28, 2021

Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom. This has been a tough year, but I would like to say the small things matter. Having extra supplies on hand to keep class focused makes all of the difference. When masks break, get spills, or fit improperly students don't miss a beat. We have can tighten them, replace them, and supply them to anyone at any time. When my students can stay in class for what they need, their learning is not disrupted. This helps everyone, including me! So thank you for keeping us moving while we navigate 6th grade math class with masks.”

  • Nothing but Notes!

    Funded May 8, 2021

Thank you so much for contributing to my classroom. The past year and a half has been incredibly hard on everyone - not just teachers and students. So your kindness has been really appreciated.

Who knew the challenges of teaching and learning would grow at such an enormous rate from 2019 to 2020 and then again into 2021. The DonorsChoose community, the platform, and the donors have made such a positive impact on my classroom during this time. I find great joy in the resources I have been able to share with my students in just the last year.

It has been so helpful to equip every student with everything they need to be ready to learn the second they walk in the door. When students are prepared it reduces the stress level for everyone. It has made a big difference in the flow of the class and the stress levels of the students. Students also loved receiving a pencil bag full of supplies.

    Thank you.”

  • Get A Mouse In Every House

    Funded Nov 28, 2020

Thank you all again for your generosity. I am overwhelmed with emotion when I think about how supportive you have been to my students this year. It is a wonderful feeling to know there are people who care as deeply about my students and their learning as I do. Your support has been a shinning light this school year.

My students have been able to better navigate their online learning experience thanks to having wireless mice for their Chromebooks. The mice assist with pulling tabs out to split their screens, writing their work out with writing tools, and scrolling through information.

Having a wireless mouse makes it easier, but also less stressful. When students have the tools they need to work well they are more likely to engage and stay engaged. I see students give up all the time because they get frustrated with tools. Navigating just got easier, so students can stay engaged in their learning. Thank you!”

  • Stand Up ... Desk, Please

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

Thank you so much for contributing to a successful learning experience for my students.

The majority of students can not see my stand up desk and drafting stool, but they certainly experience the benefits of a mobile teacher. I wish I could share a video I took to preserve the experience of what teaching looks like this year. For me it looks like a stand up desk with a computer with two monitors and a Chromebook propped up. I walked between screens to view work and provide feedback to two different groups of students while they work at different level. Some how I simultaneously allow late students entry, respond to chat questions, and submit attendance.

While the benefit of this desk is mostly mine, my students learning experience has been enhanced in a way I can not articulate. They have a teacher more prepared for the task, more confident, more collected, and with a bit of stress alleviated. I am not sure how you measure that. Many of my students and administrators do now see what is behind the presentations, small group sessions (with simultaneous supported independent work), and live feedback. On the other side of the screen I am just a moving torso. What they don't see is the desk supporting all of my tools, delivered with love and generosity from beautiful friends and strangers. Thank you.”

I do my best to create an engaging classroom by integrating collaborative structures and take the pressure off of knowing and place it on learning. It's working, my students are engaged. They make me proud everyday. However, the students are still young and energized. This means that for 90 minutes I remind students to stop making unnecessary noises. The noises come from tapping ... tapping their feet, their fingers, their pencils. Tapping everywhere. I remind them to also stop tipping their chairs. In a recent reflection, my students reported being stressed. Math gives many students anxiety. In addition, many of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes and struggle with the effects of the stress that has on their home life. It's no wonder they can not contain their energy. I also don't want them to have to. While I have some squishy toys I do not have enough, but they work at reducing distracting energy releases. I also add stand up activities, but it's not enough. I want my students to be able to release their energy whenever they need to. It just needs to be a productive release. Kids are happy to trade tapping and tipping for something else, especially something they enjoy. So let's give them the trade and make math more enjoyable and more kid-friendly by adding some ways to release their anxiety, stress, and energy in a positive way. These wobble stools (20 in total) and Squishes will provide safe energy releases that the kids need and that will help everyone focus during the 90 minutes of math class. These stools will last in my class for years to come.
