Creating With Cricut
Funded Nov 6, 2018Thank you so much for your donations to this project for a cricut and its accessories! My students are loving having the option to use the cricut for precision cutting. I have also used it to create a ton of labels for classroom organization, stencils for students to use, and signage to help organize and decorate our studio. I even used it to create a stencil so art club could screen print their own t-shirts after they tie-dyed them! Overall, this cricut cutting machine has become an essential classroom tool!”

Finding Style With Styluses
Funded Oct 10, 2018Our art students have been super excited to learn more about digital arts thanks to this project! The tablet pens, paired with a new app called AutoDesk Sketchbook that we are piloting for the district, have them buzzing with ideas and experimenting.
The tablet pens provide the students with much better control over the tools in the app, since they can see exactly where their mark is going to be without their fingers getting in the way. I have also noticed and additional benefit that I didn't even think about: it helps students to practice holding real writing and drawing tools because it is the same size and shape of a real pen or pencil. The tablet pens paired with the Sketchbook app have been especially helpful to students who are not as confident with their writing skills as they can practice as much as they need to and have the ability to undo and retry over and over.
I cannot wait to see what students create as they become more familiar with this tool!”

Funded Dec 14, 2017My students were so excited about the new addition of three drawing tablets to our classroom! The tablets were easy to set up, and included an art application called ArtRage to use with the tablets. We briefly reviewed how to use the tablets and the basic tools of ArtRage to open up the studio to them. Mostly, though, they figured out how to work our new digital art studio by experimenting, playing, and helping one another, just like a real artist would with a new tool. Even our kindergarten artists were able to experiment with digital art thanks to the ease of the art application and tablets!
It has been a joy to see how excited they all are about trying out this new medium to make art with, and I'm proud to say there are a few students who are better at making digital art than me now! Thank you for your generous donations and for supporting the arts at our school!”

Drawing Inspiration from Books
Funded Mar 29, 2017From all of my students and I, thank you so much for contributing to this project! We are so glad to have such a wide ranging variety of books to browse through for inspiration.
This year we talked a lot more about where artists get their ideas from; we break it down by saying artists get their ideas from imagination, memories, emotions, and observation. When we talk about getting ideas from observation, we look around the room and point out interesting things we could draw. Someone always points to the bookshelf -- so this is when I make the grand reveal of all of our new lovely books!
Once they are free to venture into studio time, there are always a few students after that who grab an interesting book to draw from. After that initial reveal, students are free to choose a book anytime they like -- either to get ideas from, or to sit back and take a break.
It is so nice to see them finding connections between other subject areas and art and realizing that art is really all around them!”

Funded Mar 30, 2016Dear Donors,
My students and I would like to thank you immensely for your donations to our project TAB Art Room Furniture. The storage units we received have been used every single day since we got them!
The storage cubbies have been set up as our "Drawing Studio". In it I have organized all of our drawing supplies -- markers, crayons, oil pastels, chalk, stencils, texture plates, books, and even iPads. Thanks to the new and very organized set up, students are learning to properly care for supplies..plus a little color theory as I group many things by color!
In our choice-based art classroom, after I introduce the Drawing Studio and some age appropriate techniques and skills, they may revisit the studio any time they choose to gather supplies and create. The students got quite excited when I showed them the studio for the first time and explained how our art room was changing. Some things I have heard are "Wow Ms. C..it's so different in here! Look at all of our cool stuff!", "I feel like a real artist now, my own studio!", plus so many smiling faces and eager minds.
It has been so exciting to see the wonderful things my students create everyday! I would not have been able to cultivate such a neat, colorful, and inspiring classroom environment if not for your donations to our project.”

Ms. Carter

Funded Nov 13, 2015My students and I absolutely love our meeting area!
Having the rug is a great way to gather all of the students in one place to introduce artwork, artists, or share an inspiring quote or book. As soon as my artists enter the classroom, they quietly find a circle to sit on; often they pick a favorite and always go back to it.
Even the 6th graders love carpet time! When I don't have the older ones sit on the carpet at the beginning of class, they often ask for a story after clean up so they can relax on it. And of course the kindergartners love the rug most -- they challenge themselves by counting the color rings and how many different colors are on the rug as a whole.
The carpet is now also home to our architecture center. Students can choose to build with legos or blocks on the carpet. It is a great place for them to learn communication and collaboration skills.
I am so grateful that my students and I get to use this beautiful rug for many years to come.”

Ms. Carter
