We're a growing community in rural Maine with 18 students in my 1/2 multi-age class. As a school, our strengths lie in Math and Science. It is my goal this year to strengthen, support, inspire, encourage, and instill confidence in my students as readers and writers. For many students who struggle with reading, especially in 2nd grade, it can be embarrassing to have to frequently ask for help or read only low level texts. A new Listen & Learn Literacy Center allows students a little more independence in their learning to read process by exposing them to more difficult texts and vocabulary. They are able to read along in their book as they listen to it being read, allowing them to connect the words they hear and the words they see. What a wonderful option for those who struggle - go to the Listen & Learn Center and maneuver their way through a challenging book of their choice that will stretch and motivate them!
