I am a second year teacher and have taught kindergarten for two years. Next year, I will be teaching 2nd grade. I have worked hard to build my classroom library, but for kindergarten. Now that I am going to be a 2nd grade teacher, I need to have a classroom library full of chapter books that are age appropriate. Reading longer books plays a crucial role in developing children's literacy. When students are reading a book, they are able to step into the life of a character and develop their own predictions. Each chapter test that theory and adds to or changes it. When not reading, the story will often linger in their minds as they process the events. As a teacher, I know that this is a critical skill my students need to develop. Magic Tree House, A to Z Mysteries, and Judy Moody are just a few of my favorite series that I read in 2nd grade. I hope to instill a passion for reading in my students by sharing some of the very same books that I read as a child.
