Getting an Ear Full of Books
Funded Oct 6, 2019Thank you so much for donating to our project. Our class is able to listen to so many wonderful books because of your willingness to donate. I love that my kindergartners have quality headphones to be able to listen to stories. Before your donations, Listen to Reading was not a reading station. Now, I have headphones for students in my classroom so we are able to have this as a station every day!
The headphones we received are used everyday. Each day, my students participate in reading stations. During reading stations, students rotate to a variety of reading stations including Listen to Reading. When students are at Listen to Reading, they use the headphones to listen to stories on a CD and follow along in a book. Listening to reading allows students to focus on the sounds of words read without interruption and provides a model of fluent reading. I love seeing them with their nose in a book and hearing them talk about a new favorite book.
Without donors like you, my students would not be able to listen to books during stations without disrupting others. My students and I are very grateful for your generosity in helping our classroom get a ear full of books!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Peterson
Reading is Dreaming with Eyes Open
Funded Apr 1, 2018Thank you so much for donating to our project. Our classroom library is full of so many wonderful books because of your willingness to donate. I love that my new second grade classroom is full of books at a variety of guided reading levels. Before your donations, I only had books for kindergarteners. Now, I have books for students in my classroom who are reading at a kindergarten reading level and beyond!
The books we received are used everyday. Each day, my students participate in Daily 5. During Daily 5, students rotate to a variety of reading stations including Read to Self and Read to Someone. When students are reading during Daily 5, many of them are reading the books that you provided! My higher readers are the students in particular who are enjoying the new books. I have some students who are reading beyond second grade. I love seeing them with their nose in a chapter book and hearing them talk about a new favorite book.
Without donors like you, many of my students would not have books to read that are age appropriate. My students and I are very grateful for your generosity in helping our classroom be full of a wonderful collection of books!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Peterson
