  • Green Screen Fun

    Funded Mar 1, 2022

Thank you so much for donating to my project! I'm excited to get my materials and start using them with students. They are going to be so excited to make their own movie. I can't wait to see the increase in motivation and creativity because of having green screen supplies.”

  • Sphero Adventures

    Funded Mar 14, 2019

Having an iPad and Apple pencil has helped in my instruction of various subjects. With my iPad, I am able to use AirServer to display my iPad screen for everyone to see while being able to move all around my classroom. My students love being able to show how to solve math problems using a whiteboard app while they explain their thinking to the rest of the class.

My students loved coding the robot through a course that they created. It is fun to watch them work together and help each other so that they can be successful. There have been times when they have successfully completed their maze and then they've gone back and added more obstacles or turns to make it more difficult. I like how coding robots teaches my students critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration skills.”

  • Breaking Out Together

    Funded Nov 27, 2019

Thank you so much for donating to my project! I am super excited to get the locks and flashlights to create a Breakout kit! Your donation will help students to learn skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication while having a lot of fun trying to breakout. These skills will help them throughout their lives.”

  • Energizing Students

    Funded Oct 10, 2018

My students have loved the bouncy bands. I was a little worried that the bouncy bands would become a distraction for some students but all of my students have been using them responsibly. I think using bouncy bands has helped them to get out some of their energy in a positive way. It has been a great start to having flexible seating in my classroom.

My students also loved the snacks. Every day while my students were writing their opinion piece about whether there should be snacks in schools or not, I gave them a snack. They worked so hard on their essays and looked forward to writing time each day. Thank you so much for your donation! We are grateful for the new items we have in our classroom.”

  • Inviting Environment

    Funded Oct 25, 2018

Even as fifth graders, my students love reading picture books. We have had the opportunity to read a couple of the ones we got from the grant already. We have been able to have great discussions about how the books relate to having a growth mindset and what they can do to apply those things into their lives.

My students were super excited about receiving the stool packages. They had been talking about the stools since I presented the idea of getting them. They now look forward to coming to the back table to sit on them during small group reading time. They also pick to work at the back table with them when giving the opportunity to work around the classroom.”

  • Unlocking Knowledge

    Funded Aug 22, 2018

My students love completing break out challenges. I love that it helps them to develop their critical thinking, collaboration, and creative thinking skills. It is so nice to have my own kit now. The last one that we did was on Halloween. They worked together for over an hour trying to figure out the answers to the puzzles so that they could open the locks. They are begging to do another one.

My students also love the encouraging pillows. I want my students to learn to have a growth mindset and having the pillows in the classroom are great reminders.”

  • Fantastic Fires

    Funded Jun 15, 2018

My students have loved having Kindles in our classroom because they love being able code the robots. I have found Kindles hidden so that they can save them for themselves. Learning coding skills helps my students to learn problem solving skills, which are helpful in all areas of life.

We also use the kindles to practice essential skills. They use the kindles to practice their math facts. They also use the kindles to access online books. When reading online, the students have access to a wide variety of stories that they are interested in.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Berns

  • Help Us Code

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

I am glad that kindle fires will run the coding programs that my students like because they are a lot cheaper than iPads. Having kindles will enable my students to use the numerous robots that we already have. My students wish that they were allowed to code the robots all day long. The 21st century skills my students are learning from coding will positively impact their futures. I loved how amazed one of my students was that Ripple gave such a big donation. He quickly went and looked up what Ripple does. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!”

  • Helpful Headsets With Magnificent Microphones

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

My students feel very special when they put on the headsets with microphones. It has motivated them to create math screencasts with explanations. I am amazed at some of their explanations and it gives me great insight into their thinking. By listening to the videos, I have been able to identify some students who need additional assistance. They have also used the microphones to add their own voice to their coding projects. I look forward to finding more ways to utilize the headphones with microphones in the future. Thanks again!”

  • We Want To Be Heard

    Funded Jan 25, 2018

My students have loved having a throwable microphone. Having a throwable microphone encourages a lot of my students to participate because they love getting the chance to throw the ball around. It is amazing how a little thing can make a discussion more engaging. They did great at setting up expectations like if the microphone needed to go all the way across the classroom then it would need to take a pit stop on its way. Most importantly, the microphone has enabled us to hear some students who we had a hard time hearing before, which is why I wanted it. Thanks again!”

I have a class full of amazing students who vary tremendously in their abilities and interests. I try to present the content that I teach in a way that gets them excited to learn while allowing them to be confident and successful. My students love learning when they are able to have hands-on experiences to discover the reasons behind phenomena they see in the world around them. My students are enthusiastic to learn despite the many challenges they face. The school I teach at is located in a low income area surrounded by higher income schools. My school was 1% away from being qualified as a Title l so we do not receive extra funding and resources for being low income. With a lack of funding, it is extremely difficult to provide the exciting and challenging opportunities that my students need to improve.
