  • Studying Science

    Funded Apr 7, 2022

We are almost to the end of the school year, and this quarter has flown by! Our class has been so busy exploring science, the time is going very quickly. Some students have even shared that they're not ready for summer break to be here because they want to keep caring for our garden over the summer! We have had a great time observing caterpillars turn into butterflies, watching seeds turn into beautiful plants, and noticing patterns in the weather as winter turned to spring. Of course, we've been recording and journaling all of the wonderful changes we've been able to see. Thank you for giving my students the chance to explore the world around them and view themselves as scientists and writers. After two crazy years of intermittent virtual learning, it has been incredible to have students together with so many hands-on opportunities to wonder, observe, and draw conclusions.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Taylor

  • Spring Supply Stock Up

    Funded Mar 31, 2022

Thank you SO much for your support! I can't believe this project is already funded. We are just a few days away from spring break, and I am so excited to have the supplies we need to finish up the rest of the year together when we return for fourth quarter.”

  • Purposeful Play!

    Funded Aug 10, 2021

Play is the work of childhood! After two years of interruption due to COVID, it is truly a joy to be able to offer the opportunity to play daily in my classroom. Students are able to choose from a variety of toys and games as they arrive to school in the morning. This creative and open-ended play with peers has been essential in self-regulation and social skills and of course is just FUN! My students love exploring the open-ended materials and creating stories to go with them. They also especially love building with our new Legos and caring for each others and stuffed animals with our new doctor play kit. I've also been able to incorporate play into many of our math and social studies lessons, allowing us a chance to explore grade-level concepts in a way that is engaging. Thanks so much for giving my students these opportunities to just be kids!”

  • Write Here Write Now!

    Funded Jul 15, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous support! After 2 years of changes, my budding writers are so thankful to have the tools they need to grow in both their writing confidence and writing ability. We are working hard on pencil grip, letter formation, and illustrations as well as the craft of writing. Three times a week during Writing Workshop, my class is taught a writing skill and then has time to try it out in their own books. Each student is able to have their own writing folder to store their writing. Their folder is complete with helpful tools like alphabet charts and a word wall printed on sticky labels and stuck directly to their folder so they are always handy. Having staplers, pens, sticky notes, and correction tape has elevated the confidence in my writers. They are starting to see themselves as real authors and illustrators and write more and more each day.”

  • Operation Meditation

    Funded May 4, 2021

What a year it has been so far! After two crazy years of school, now more than ever we all need a time to relax, rest, and reflect. Thanks to the materials in this project, I have been able to incorporate many opportunities for my students to adjust back to in-person school. We incorporate a daily Morning Meeting where we learn self-soothing and calming strategies to process big feelings that arise at school. After learning about our tools, they are added to our break spot for students to use when they need a minute to relax. In addition, we've been able to implement quiet time daily after recess with relaxing music and lighting. This allows students to take a minute to reset after lots of social activity at lunch and recess. I can't thank you enough for your generosity. It has allowed us to have the tools and materials we need to be successful this school year.”

  • Back to School, Back to Basics

    Funded May 4, 2021

We're a few weeks in to the school year and settling in to routines! It feels good to be back in person after teaching a full year virtually.

Having supplies ready to go helped fill in the gap for students who were unable to bring in supplies this year. As we unpacked the first day, I was able to provide the tools we needed to each student. I have lots and lots of pencils and crayons stocked up for when we have created so much we need a supply refresh!

Now that we're a few weeks in, each student is the proud owner of their very own writer's folder complete with alphabet charts printed on sticky labels so they never get lost! My students love setting up their "office" with their folders and charts ready to go. My students have loved using whiteboards and dry erase sleeves to draw, write words, and practice handwriting. We will introduce science notebooks shortly and I know my students will be thrilled to have their own special place to document their learning. We also will be adding to our math folders and phonics sight word bags using the supplies you provided!

In a year still affected by COVID, it has been incredibly helpful to have cleaning supplies and extra masks on hand to maintain our health and safety as we learn, play, and grow together. Each day, we wipe tables, breakfast trays, toys, supplies...the list goes on. It's also been so wonderful to have the organizational supplies like colorful tape, magnetic shelves, and hooks to sort out supplies as we use them.

I am so thankful for your generous support that has allowed my classroom to function much more smoothly in this uncertain year.”

  • New Learners Need Books & Manipulatives

    Funded Sep 16, 2019

We are loving all our new supplies!

Each week, students choose 10-15 books that are just-right for them to practice their reading skills independently during our Reading Workshop time. Having brand new leveled texts has allowed some of my most reluctant readers to be excited about reading! There's nothing better than opening a brand new book for the first time, especially when they're about things First Graders love: animals, cars, fairy tales, and friends. The books we received match the needs of my students, and I have enough books to support them from early reading skills like pointing to the words, up to complex multisyllabic words and retelling stories with many characters and settings.

We also received many sight word puzzles. These are incorporated into our differentiated What I Need (WIN) time daily. Since I was able to get multiple levels of puzzles, each of my students is successful practicing the words they need from "at" to "about" and "because". I am passionate about providing multi-sensory opportunities for students-and having a new, hands-on way to practice sight words allows them the practice they need that still feels like play!

Our math manipulatives have been a great addition to our math centers and small group instruction. I am able to incorporate more games using dice, magnetic pieces, and ten frame blocks to support number sense development while having fun. Even my most reluctant learners love having a chance to play with numbers!

Thank you for providing us with materials that make our learning interactive and fun! We are busy building skills that will help us become future teachers, doctors, engineers, authors, and more!”

    Mrs. Taylor

  • Hoping for Headphones!

    Funded Sep 27, 2017

We have been working hard with our new headphones! Our computer-based reading program, Lexia, has been much easier to focus on with comfortable headphones that cancel out the noise around us. We will also be using these headphones for a Listen to Reading center starting next week. Our next math unit also includes lots of interactive computer games that we will be using our headphones for.

My students have shown a great amount of responsibility for their new headphones. One student said that opening the box was better than getting a birthday gift! Knowing that they are able to use their very own pair helps them take ownership in caring for their materials, and in their learning. There are a few students that always voluntarily double-check that all the headphones get put back in the right place to keep them safe and working. They are so excited to be at the computer or iPad station because they know they are going to be able to interact with the programs without worrying about headphones poking their head or sound coming out of one ear!

We are so thankful for our new technology. The headphones have increased our engagement and focus, and therefor our learning! I cannot wait to find more programs and games to integrate into our computer, iPad, and listening stations now that we have the proper equipment for learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Taylor
