I am a first year 4th grade science and social studies teacher in a Title I STEM magnet school. My students are active hands-on learners that will benefit from non-traditional seating methods and a variety of reading materials. Flexible seating and great reading materials have the ability to empower my learners. By allowing students to have a voice and a choice in my classroom, I will be promoting higher levels of engagement and independence. I've selected my students flexible seating based on its versatility in use and its appeal to my students' needs. The wobble cushions can be used in a variety of ways. My students can stand on them while at their standing desks, they can sit on them while working on the floor, or they can use them in a traditional desk seating. The wobble stools will serve as an additional option for my students to choose from. I selected adjustable wobble stools so that all of my students would be able to use them. As a first year teacher the reading materials in my class library are limited. Therefore, I am trying to expand and add to my classroom library to give my students even more choices. I've selected books that align with our state's literacy, science, and social studies standards and have included selections from both literary and nonfiction genres.
