  • Fun in the Sun for my Preschoolers with Special Needs

    I so grateful and thrilled that you all donated to my project! The project was funded in one day! It is wonderful to know that thoughtful people share my dream for children with special needs to be able to enjoy outside playtime using quality equipment.

    It is so important for me as a teacher of young children to provide healthy and motivating playtime experiences for my children. Their little developing bodies are all in need of some Fun in the Sun! Again, I am more than thankful there are people out there thinking about teachers and their students!

  • Rock 'n Roll Preschool: We Need Music for Our Souls

    Thank you all for your generous donation to my classroom. The CD player you donated gets used everyday! The students love music, they love to sing and dance! Now with a workable CD player we are able to use our entire collection of classroom CDs.

    We sing in the morning to open our class, we sing to learn the ABCs and we sing to have fun. The children love to rock out too! I have so much gratitude for your gift to our classroom.

    Schools all across America are facing budget cuts, which means that classrooms are not provided with essential resources. For preschoolers, music is an essential resource. It is music that helps build early literacy skills. Music can improve phonemic awareness, verbal memory, and vocabulary.

    The preschoolers say, "THANK YOU, we love our CD player!"”

The students in my class range from 3 to 5 years old. Most of my preschoolers are children identified with a developmental delay in language, in addition to being English Language Learners. When the students started school in September, my classroom was the quietest classroom in the school. I realized fairly quickly, I better do something quick! So I turned on the music! It took awhile, but some of the students with minimal language started singing! My students live in a low socioeconomic neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley; our school is a Title 1 school (federally funded due to an impoverished community), and 100% of our students participate in the free lunch program. I want to engage my students through music and bring their language to life!
