These items will be used for sensory activities. The materials I need are going to be used to help students develop in their academic standards while also strengthening nerve connections- problem solving, critical thinking, memory enhancement, social development. Not all students thrive in a "read it, write it, memorize it" environment. We can use Play/Doh and sand for shaping numbers and letters. The water beads are great for calming down students with social/emotional needs. Jenga is a fun way to learn sight words. Building blocks help with fine/gross motor skills and social interactions. Paint is a fun way to learn colors and provides an engaging way to reinforce reading CC Standards. With these sensory activities, students of all levels and learning styles will have an opportunity to learn and play. 6 and 7 year-olds often times have shorter attentions spans. So, keeping their senses involved helps keep their minds focused because their bodies are busy. As a first year teacher, I don't have any of these supplies built up. With COVID restrictions still in place, my goal is to reinvigorate fun in the classrooms and to boost student's academically. Please help me get my students off to a great year.
