Ready, Set, Read!
Funded Jun 28, 2020This has been quite a year for all of us! We started the school year online due to Covid19. Many students were anxious to get back into the classroom. Although, I was nervous I understood that the classroom would been normalcy to the students, and honestly to the teachers, as well.
We were finally able to come back together two weeks ago and "restart" in a sense. I told my students that we would be reading a novel and they were ecstatic because many of them have never read a novel previously.
Out of the novels donated, the novel that we will be reading first is "Restart" by Gordon Korman and we have already begun gathering information about the novel and its author. We cannot wait to read and discuss this novel!
Thank you so very much for helping bring the gift of reading to my students.”

Funded Oct 4, 2019As a teacher, I am always looking for new ways in which to provide my students with the resources and tools necessary that will allow them to grow and flourish. Students are always hungry to create and your generous donations have given my students the opportunity to come up with original projects using the materials you have provided. You may look through the pictures on hand and see them at work or presenting their work. I am forever in your debt and I thank you once more. You have left your mark on them and on me.”

Snacks Needed to Fuel Readers
Funded Jul 26, 2019I am so grateful for your generosity. My students were beyond excited to receive the snacks you helped provide. My students were all smiles! Those snacks give my students the boost of energy that they need to, not only keep going after school, but also allow students to eat and drink something during the opening portion of their weekly reading meeting. While they snack, mentors and mentees greet one another and catch up from the previous week. Students bond during "snack time" and then are ready to start reading. Thank you for your kindness again!”

Funded Sep 30, 2018Your snack donations helped to fuel our students during their weekly, reading sessions. Older, student mentors are extremely grateful to have a small snack, while tutoring their younger counterparts. Our after-school, reading program really has taken off and it is because of individuals such as yourselves that approximately fifty students have benefited, and continue to benefit from your donations. I thank you again for opening your hearts and wallets to our humble project. This reading program began in September and will continue until June, meeting once a week, for two hours at a time. Your kindness has not gone unnoticed and both my students and I appreciate it!”

Making Computer Usage Viable in the Classroom
Funded Oct 15, 2016The donations you made to my classroom this year allowed my students to obtain four new laptops, which they utilize on a daily basis. Through this kind gesture, students have been able to type up reports and essays, create PowerPoint presentations and even work on the school's yearbook online. Without your help, none of this would have been possible; my students and I are forever indebted to you. It is with grateful heart that I send this message. Thank you so very much for your donation and your dedication to education. Technology is the wave of the future and you have certainly helped to pave the way, in that regard.”

Bonding Via Books
Funded Aug 15, 2016Dear Donors,
Many of the students in my reading classes are immigrants who arrived in the United States within the last two to three years. They have spent most of their time here learning the English language and adapting to the social norms of the country.
This year, many of them will be reading full-length novels for the first and I wanted to ensure that at least one of the novels read in class would be representative of their culture and heritage. That is primarily the reason that I picked 90 Miles from Havana by Enrique Flores-Galbis to read with my class. Over 90% of my class is of Cuban decent.
The majority of the book will be read in class and students will take marginal notes, during the readings. Additionally, students will partake in Socratic Style collaborative conversations, in order to ensure understanding and to improve upon listening and speaking skills. A culminating activity of creating a soundtrack for the novel will be assigned and said soundtrack will include: plot elements, themes, characterization, and symbols to name a few.
Individuals such as yourselves have made all of this possible for my students and I am forever indebted to you for your kindness.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Torres
