Many students suffer from math anxiety. Others just don't like math. Still others have learning disabilities that make school difficult in general. Students have to sit in uncomfortable metal or plastic chairs for 6 hours a day. All of these issues combine to create a classroom environment that is Not conducive to learning. By providing an assortment of seating options for students, I hope to provide a physically comfortable and relaxing learning environment. This physical comfort and flexibility of seating options can then help the student to relax and be more open to learning math. For example, a student who needs to stand sometimes will be more comfortable if they have a desk that can be adjusted based on whether they are standing or sitting. A taller student being able to move a desk up a couple of inches can make them more comfortable because their legs fit under the desk. A student who has a lot of energy might choose to sit on the exercise ball because they can roll around in place or bounce up and down to alleviate their need to move while still being in a position to write. And finally, the bean bags can be placed in a circle to create a comfortable group discussion setting for when students are working in small groups. Thank you for helping me to create the best possible learning environment for my students.
