These materials will aide in how students see mathematics. With the ability the calculators have to change color and create user-friendly visuals, students will be able to see the graphs in color to help make important distinctions related to how the numbers are being manipulated. This is especially useful for my 8th graders as they begin to understand the basics of algebra. These are essential tools that my students will utilize daily. Without access to graphing calculators, students will have no opportunity to visualize their numbers in a way that is efficient, clear, and malleable. Using color in mathematics increases students' understanding of difficult concepts. The tablet that I am requesting will also play a huge role in allowing students to see step by step changes. I will use this tablet to take notes and show examples along with them. They will be able to see changes I make to equations in real-time and will allow them the chance to practice those changes. Students can apply their learning as I pass the tablet along from students to a student, so they may show their work on the screen, using the color-coding strategies, as they utilize with their calculators, to enhance their understanding. I have done my best to create my lessons centered around color coordinating and visual aspects of the math that benefit many struggling students. I hope that this project can bring engagement in my class to a whole new level!
