Our school district is the fourth poorest in the state of New York. However, I feel like the "richest" teacher in the world. My students, in 9, are enthusiastic, eager to learn, smart, funny, and are going places in life! One of the key components I have created within our curriculum is a strong independent reading program that is aligned closely with the New Common Core Curriculum. Educational research strongly supports students reading books of their choice, at appropriate reading levels, as a way to increase reading skills and strategies. My goal with this project is to continue to instill a lifelong love of reading and writing among my students.
