I am a new teacher caring for the children from the community I was born and raised in. My Students live in a low-income area of the Bronx and do not receive adequate resources. This area of the Bronx was hard hit by COVID-19, with an especially high infection and mortality rate that caused our schools to shut down for the better part of a year. Unfortunately, the mental health and acuity of students were greatly affected. It is imperative that our students learn how to express their emotions in a healthy and productive manner. Because of this, we should use art as a healthy coping strategy, especially post-pandemic.
