  • All About Muscles

    As the year rolls on, I thought it might be nice to check back in to let you know about the impact your funding our school project "all about muscles" has had on our students at P.S. 154.

    Students learn all about their muscles and bodies in P.E. class. They learn that their heart is one of the strongest and most important muscles in their body, and they learn to listen to its feedback, adjusting their activity accordingly. Older students engage in pulse checks after vigorous exercise. Younger students practice monitoring their heart rate and doing tests to see what activities make their hearts beat faster and slower.

    The muscle models and charts you helped fund give students context and point of reference for these activities. They love exploring and learning more about their heart muscle, which leads them to investigate and discover more about the other muscles in their bodies.

  • Put Them In the Spin Cycle

    As the school year rolls on, I thought it might be nice to check back in and let you know more about the impact your funding our school project to purchase PE spin cycles has had on our students.

    We've set up two permanent stations in our gymnasium for students to use the cycles at will. Sometimes students opt to spin when they need to take a break from class to refocus, while other times students cycle when they're not able to work with the rest of the class for some reason. In some classes, students with particular learning needs spin to focus while listening to whole group instructions. Regardless of why students find themselves taking a turn, the cycles themselves are a huge attraction, and for many students, it's their first time pedaling.
