• Compassion In Motion: Building Sportsmanship & Kindness in the Bronx

  I'm excited to share that our project to foster kindness and understanding through sportsmanship and emotional learning is fully funded, thanks to your incredible generosity! Your support means the world to us and our students here in the South Bronx.

  With your help, we're ready to enrich our PE curriculum with books that teach empathy, mindfulness, and compassion. These resources will be key in helping our students learn the importance of supporting each other—both in the gym and in life.

• Basketball Team Dreams

  A year has passed since your generous support enabled the triumphant revival of our school basketball team, and the impact of your contribution continues to resonate in our community. Basketball, a sport cherished by our students, had once been a vibrant source of school spirit and community unity. However, the disruptions caused by COVID-19 paused these cherished moments. Your funding last year for essential basketball resources - practice equipment, game balls, nets, and cleaning supplies - played a pivotal role in rekindling this spirit and bringing back a sense of normalcy to our school.

  Reflecting on the past year, it's heartening to see how the re-launch of the team has revitalized the enthusiasm and camaraderie among our students. The excitement that filled the air as students returned to the court, the renewed sense of team spirit, and the community's collective support for our players were truly remarkable. This project did more than equip our team; it restored a vital part of our school's identity and brought joy and unity back to our students and community at a time when it was most needed.

• Squeaky Clean Floor Spots

  I hope this message finds you well. We are excited to share with you the remarkable impact your support has had on our gymnasium, a hub of activity for over 300 students daily. Thanks to your generosity, our project to introduce robot cleaners for our gym floor has been a resounding success, revolutionizing how we maintain our space.

  Previously, despite the best efforts of our student helpers and custodial team, keeping the gym floor clean was a challenging task. With the sheer number of students moving through the gym each day, the floor quickly became dirty, impacting the cleanliness and hygiene of the area where our students sit and engage in various activities. The introduction of robot cleaners has been transformative. These machines work tirelessly each night to ensure a thorough sweep and mop, greeting our students each morning with a spotless and welcoming environment. This not only contributes to a healthier space but also enhances the overall experience for our students, who now have a clean and comfortable floor to sit, play, and learn on.

  Your contribution has significantly uplifted our gym's environment, positively affecting the daily lives of our students and staff. It's a beautiful reminder of how thoughtful support can make a tangible difference in the educational experience of young learners.

• Fans to Cool Our Gymnasium

  Funded Aug 16, 2021

  We can't thank you enough for the support of our gymnasium fans project. It took some doing and quite a lot of ingenuity, but we were finally able to mount the fans you helped us purchase this summer. There were all sorts of roadblocks and hurdles to getting them up. Permits, getting the proper mounting hardware to secure the fans to our block walls, electrical wiring, etc. But now that we've jumped through all the necessary hoops, I am thrilled to share that the fans are up and running and set to cool our gym this spring/summer. They're already helping to circulate air in the space, which helps provide a COVID safe environment. I purchased a few SMART plugs for the outlets, and now we can even turn the fans on/off with our voice. Students have been enjoying saying, "Hey Google, turn on the gym fans." • See Your Moves on Instant Replay

Right now, we're practicing our overhand throwing skills and are excited to incorporate the materials from this project into our station work. • All-in-One Scoreboard, Interval Timer, and Stop Motion Skills Trainer

  As the year rolls on, I wanted to check back in to let you know of the impact your donation to fund our T.V./scoreboard project has had on students at P.S. 154.

  We use the screen now mounted in our gymnasium every day. It serves as a Tabata timer, giant Zoom screen, projector, scoreboard, and music player all in one. The utility of this simple addition to our space is priceless, and I'm not sure how we ran a quality program without it. The portal allows us to share video examples of skills students practice, diagrams, and other visuals that help language learners and younger students understand what they're learning in a completely different and more inclusive way.
