  • Life Essentials for Esurient Students

    Funded Nov 21, 2017

Thank you for your generous donations! Our students were very excited to learn there would be a supply of deodorant in the Wellness Center. Many of them expressed that they often forget to apply at home before they leave for school. I will probably have to order more because they are flying off of our shelves. We are planning to have a "Stress Less Fest" during finals week and we will be giving out a few sticks of deodorant that will have a note attached that says, "Don't sweat it, you'll do great!".

We hope you all have a great day and a wonderful holiday season!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mika

  • Keep Calm and Crock on!

    Funded Nov 1, 2017

Thank you for your generous donations! Starting high school can be a challenging experience for any teenager. SFUSD's Mentoring For Success: Project Arrive is a school-based group mentoring program designed for 9th-grade students. The purpose is to help 9th graders make a successful transition into high school and to connect them with the people, resources, and inspiration they will need to stay on the path toward graduation.

Schools intentionally reach out to students who have had previous challenges related to regular school attendance and/or academics and enroll those who are enthusiastic about participating voluntarily.

Our group is looking forward to checking in on this semester and making grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup before we go on Winter break!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mika

  • Snacks For Striving Students

    Funded Nov 4, 2017

Having healthy and organic snacks in the Wellness Center helps us meet our students' needs. Most of our students come from low-income families. They often come to school on an empty stomach which can lead to irritability, lack of energy, or stomach aches. When students find out they can get a snack here, their face lights up and they feel supported. Wellness staff steps into the hallway during passing periods to offer water, hand sanitizer, lotion, sanitary napkins, and snacks. We greet each student with a smile and some encouraging words. Thank you again for your generous donation and allowing us to feed our striving students.”

  • Think Before You Drink

    Funded Aug 22, 2017

Would you believe it if I told you that we already received our sparking water before our first week of school was even over?! Now, that my friends is something to celebrate. I have recently moved to a new school myself. I moved from a middle school Wellness Center to a high school Wellness Center. The population here is MUCH larger than the school I was previously at, and I am eager to meet students and coordinate with School Nutrition Services. Having sparking water without and sugar or sodium will encourage students to make healthier choices when it comes to their drinks.

Being in a classroom can often times be hard when your body is filled with chemicals, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and other additives. Now that I have sparkling water on hand in my office I can greet students and offer them a healthy alternative and ask them if they would like to leave their soda or energy drink in my office until the end of the school day.

Thank you again for making this possible. You are greatly appreciated!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mika

  • Stress Reduction for Students

    Funded Aug 10, 2017

Thank you SO much for your generous donations. We are very excited to use these materials and practice self care. I will be co facilitating a weekly girls group for Seniors who will be transitioning into adulthood. Being a teenager who is filled with questions and concerns around health, college, careers, finances, rent, relationships, and time management can be overwhelming. I am aiming to teach these young women how to soothe themselves in times of crisis or confusion, which is something I struggled with throughout my own high school experience.

Lets all be the change we hope to see in the world :)

Continue to spread love, peace, and happiness”

    Ms. Mika

  • Snacks For Stellar Students

    Funded Jul 7, 2017

As our school year is about to being in SFUSD, the materials and supplies you have helped me obtain are about to be put to use. Middle school students and their growing bodies are always in constant need.

Many students weren't able to focus on their classwork last year and often came to me seeking food, water, and comfort. I have also seen many students eating Hot Cheetos and junk food because they can not afford nutritious meals and snacks. I am so excited to talk about healthy eating habits and it relates to their education.

Thank you again for all your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mika

  • Snacks for Striving Students

    Funded Apr 18, 2017

We are so BLESSED & thankful to have people like you in this world. My students face more trauma and poverty than most children their age in San Francisco. Handing them a healthy snack during school or before they head home always makes me count my own blessings...

The Bayview is a "food desert", but thanks to you, our school can be a place to find a healthy snack and a safe space :) The liquor store across the street from us doesn't realize what a classroom is like when children have just ingested a 20 oz soda and a bag of chips for breakfast. As we all know, students need REAL food with REAL nutritional value in order to feel good mentally and physically.

We can't wait to send you all some pictures :)”

  • Hygiene Kits For High School Bound Students

    Funded Mar 29, 2017

Our teachers and students are so appreciative for these materials. These students have bodies that are growing, developing, and changing every day which can sometimes lead to stinky or sticky situations. Having the travel size and full size deodorants is helpful because they can be kept in their lockers or backpacks. It is also helpful to have lotion for students to use because many of our students have eczema. The lotion can also be used to do grounding exercises when a student is feeling upset.

Thank you for your generous donations. You are appreciated and I hope you have an amazing day!”

  • Our Health & Wellness Center Needs YOU

    Funded Feb 16, 2017

We have been using the snacks and tea on a daily basis here in the Health and Wellness Center. I often have students come to me before lunch and even before schools starts, saying they are hungry because they weren't able to have breakfast at home. The graham crackers are snacks that they can eat quickly before returning to class. Students like the different tea flavors such as peppermint, chamomile, and orange. The peppermint tea is used for students with stomach aches and the chamomile is used for students who are feeling anxious or worried about violence in the community.

My students and I appreciate your generous donations and it really made us feel supported.

The DonorsChoose website is amazing because it's a helpful resource that creates a sense of community and provides students with the supplies they need.”

We have been using the snacks and hand soap on a daily basis here in the Health and Wellness Center. I often have students come to me before lunch saying they are hungry because they weren't able to have breakfast at home. The KIND bars are healthy snacks that they can eat quickly before returning to class. They like the texture and fruity flavors of the KIND bars and they all love the Healthy Choice Chicken Noodle Soup as well.

My students and I appreciate your generous donations and it really made us feel supported. I haven't stopped talking about you all since I got the news we had been fully funded in less than a week! The DonorsChoose website is amazing because it's a helpful resource that creates a sense of community and provides students with the supplies they need.”
